[diesel_mercedes] cruisero.

Thursday put in the new Cruise Control module under the dash, Wheee Friday pulled out onto HWY5 clicked on the cruise and played rummy with Swmbo, she beat me the first three hands then..................

For those who have never put in the CC module, here are a couple of tips. When you look at the module you will see a bar with two screw holes on the aluminum case, these hold the case to a bracket one of the screws is quite difficult to undo, the other impossible. Don't bother with them yet. If you look up on the console side, two minutes after you get neck cramps You may see a 10 mm bolt head, undo this and the bracket and module will drop down allowing easy (sort of) access to the two screws. At first it looks like there is an 11mm nut on the bolt,but it is welded to the bracket. Use a 10mm socket on a short 1/4" extension with a 1/4" good ratchet, my crapsman would not ratchet and you can only get one hand or three fingers to it.
But what a joy, cruised down I 5 for two days and the sciatic nerve, while still complaining, is not making me cry.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Transmission Woes

I agree Nate, so I will bite the bullet. I figure if I spend $2500 per year on both cars, it is a good investment. Next up, tires and shocks for my wife. brian

[diesel_mercedes] RE: Re: Transmission Woes

THANK YOU for the update on Duane ! I lost his # in one of my cell 'phone crashes , please tell him the two Nates both say  hello .

I'll go by and say hello to Victor , he's always so busy I thought he didn't like me dropping by when he's working .

Victor Trujillo said "hello Nate" and asked how you were doing. You should stop by and tell him how you are doing. I'll probably tow (Mary) over to him. He said all the right words. Interesting, before I went to Pasadena, I spent 1/2 hour with (Kenny) Duane Rogers who told me that he started out doing transmissions - small world sometimes. brian

[diesel_mercedes] RE : Diesel Purge

You're doing a ' Mini-Purge ' now , I do the same thing every time I replace my secondary fuel filter ~ I completely fill the screw on secondary filter with whatever Diesel Fuel Additive I have on hand .

A few times I only had a big can of SeaFoam , filled it up with that and screwed it on , lit it off and away she went .

When changing filters I always add some diesel kleen or purge to the filter to top it off.  What is the best thing to do to do a mini purge?  That is what product is best for cleaning out the tubes.  Granted its about a half pint in the secondary but I can get a quart into my other pre filter.  Lawrence Rhodes..

[diesel_mercedes] RE: RE: Cold Starting

You're welcome ;

The fine folks here did the same for me when first I bought an old beat to shyte Mercedes Diesel , following the proper starting drill allowed me to get it easily started first time , every time even on those cool 40° mornings , worn out , low compression engine and all .

Older German cars are the tiniest bit fussy but respond great when you take the time .

Nate,

Your pop tester sounds like a bad copy of the one at Mercedes source: $189.50

I'll pick one up sometime.

Bummer that Brian ;

Just last week was a post about a Mercedes Auto Tranny place in Orange County .

Or , I posted Victor's address for you before .

This mornings evaluation: Got reverse, got low. Don't got "drive" or "S" - indeed, looks like, smells like a B2 piston failure. Looks like we will be a one car family for a while.

[diesel_mercedes] RE: RE: Turbo Overhaul

Well ;

First I gotta do the turbo and the injectors .

=8-) .

So far , no vacuum pump kit fro ATY , maybe I'll get it from Kent .

 Nate you probably will have the Vadc pump built by the time we come through LA, next week, what is a good time for you to pop it into my car?

Tony.

I got a UPS notice in last nights E-Mail telling me a package had been shipped so hopefully it's the overhaul kit on it's way to me .

BTW : as I was digging in my trunk for the (broken grrrr) Injector Pop Tster , I happened across  my spare vacuum pump ~ I shoulda bought a rebuild kit for it as good vacum makes your old Mercedes more fun to drive and all the vacuum operated things work better , the HVAC comes on faster and so on .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Transmission Woes

Is this by any chance worthwhile to buy a tran on ebay with a 90 day warranty and put it in your self?

If saw this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-300D-Transmission-126-Type-AUTOMATIC-AT-300SD-81-85-/310723212483.
Don't know if it is right but maybe something for the same price?

Yes, it was more (much more) than the B2. But, I thought about the transmission from the "rust bucket" laying there in Mikes Auto shop for 6 months, until he got tired of seeing it and scrapped it out. I should have put it in my trunk until I needed it six years later.
