This is a better video; I'm gonna run my Merc on compressed air. (you can see the power supply cord at the far right protruding from the corner of the board mounting for the compressor.)

I was at the local PAP today, coincidentally where I bought my 300D years ago, and they did not have a Merc anywhere.

That's high $ for a non turbo model.....

God alone knows what went into the " rebuild " ~ I don't trust any Mechanics .

Still and all , it does look like a very nice car , it even has the more reliable Klima II HVAC .

IMO ; they give up after dumping too much into the Mercedes Diesel because the ' !!FREE !! FUEL !!' , _isn't_ and worse , it's a terribly time consuming PIA to do right , even the -other- Nate gave up on it after several years of good results , the other thing is this : old Mercedes , like all old German cars , need constant maintenance to be reliable . for some , this is nothing , especially because you can do the works necessary at home .

Other folks , raised on cheap Japanese cars that run *perfectly* for 20 years & 250,000 miles before being thrown away , balk at this much work & $ .

Me , I plan to keep my old 300CD Diesel Sports Coupe as long as I can , I'd _LOVE_ to convert my '69 Chevy C/10 pickup to an OM617.952 Diesel engine .

Check for rust in the trunk floor , rockers and cowl underneath the battery then BUY IT ! .

It's a CHEAP MERCEDES DIESEL so you _know_ it's a good deal and will be inexpen$ive to keep running.... =8-) .

[diesel_mercedes] Finally some news about that 240D down the street

 

I was finally able to get in touch with the owner of that 240D down the street from me. It's a 1977 with 200K+ on the clock. He will sell it for $750 which seems fair. The car was a runner before the owner moved south to Eugene and left it at Mom's place. He used to commute from Hillsboro with no problems, but he's been bicycling to work since he's so close. He has his receipts as well as maintenance records going back 10 years from the previous owner. He has $2K into the car, but would rather sell it to someone who'll use it than have it sit there unused. I've been kinda quiet lately, but keeping up with the reading...and I just love seeing what's up with you fine people each day :)

Interesting to see the talk steering toward holistic healing and consequences of diet and our engineered "food"....this is my daily world! Of *course* I'd find myself among MB diesel owners who are also free thinkers and rely on direct experience and not necessarily "mainstream thought"...yay!

And here's another vote for the every day miracle of apple cider vinegar (Bragg's is good...some brands like Heinz make "APPLEflavoredVINEGAR" hiding the fact that it's GMO-based corn - white - vinegar that's been flavored...yikes)

In other news...I finally got myself to the PaP down in Albuquerque and that was a GAS! (insert diesel pun here). Not sure I got any amazing deals, this operation was pretty corporate and sorta mobbed with folks, but I got most of the small stuff on my wishlist and a few extras all for under $100 (sun visors, door lock knob, switches, fuse lid inserts, *battery tie-downs* whee....etc and my holy grail - left blinker light!).

Sadly the nice weather hasnt' aligned with free time lately..hope that changes soon...

Almost. I do have friends here that built cabins with no power tools..Winters here can be like a "modified arctic" winter. Back in the 80's it was colder and much more snow , never hardly would get above freezing. Which is way better than it sounds because snow in the teens and 20's is way better than slush. Anyway really neat video and the guy did a amazing job with his camera and did it say he did that in 1968?. Does anyone know of the guy that lived on The River Of No Return(Salmon) in Idaho? This was back in the 60's maybe. Same kind of deal. There is a book about his life, really interesting. The guys name was Sylvan Heart also know as Buckskin Bill.

Folks, I hesitate to be the curmudgeon here but this is not the place
for "social interaction". I have medical horror stories in my family
the are worse than anything you are discussing. I suggest that you
leave the diesel mercedes group for mercedes related content and find a

I've never been very good at "Political correctness"  I worked at Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc shortly after moving to TX. Then a string of other very large corporations. I was always saying the wrong thing.  I was shocked when I interviewed at EDS, owned at the time by Ross Perots' son.  I was brought into HR first, where they told me that the company had just started allowing females to wear pants to work, IF they were in pants suit!  That was 1996!  I didn't land that job which was OK with me!

People don't think for themselves anymore.

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in the middle of a science fiction movie.  Walk through WM when no one is in there...it's weird.  All of those TV's blaring this product and that.  Then you come home and the TV is blaring this drug or that and the attorney's are suing every drug company (BTW why doesn't anyone sue the FDA since they are the ones that allow the drugs to be on the market?).  When do people start thinking for themselves?  Why does everyone let the TV think for them?  I laugh when someone tells me they eat at Subway because it's "fresh".  I ask them "so what's so healthy there? Certainly, it wasn't a turbo from the factory.  Either it really DOESN'T have a turbo, or, yes, someone's done a conversion.
