Nate,
I don't have the full gauge setup, though maybe I should.
I just have a basic gauge on the filler hose that reads the low pressure side, with low, good, high. I also feel how cold the AC pipe up front, right up top is, should be cold, maybe with condensation. After I got the AC working again, it didn't seem very cold, and the gauge showed it was at the low end of Good. A can put it to the high side of Good at Idle. The AC's now OK, yet takes awhile to cool the car.
I enjoyed the AC coming back from work today, as it was around 90* outside.
Let us know what you find out.
Beyond for my MB, I should get the AC gauges, to check my Ford Van/ Sportsmobile, as it has a secondary AC for the rear, which works in unison with the engine based AC, while the engine is running, and otherwise it works on it's own on shorepower. Both systems share the same r134a, under the hood. It's sometimes quite cold, and other times, not cold enough.

? What are your low and high pressure readings and at what RPM ? .
I was chatting with a Mechanic I know who added AC to his vintage air cooled VW and he said he used R134a and is running 30 ~ 40 # on the low side and 150 on the high side at idle and it's freezing him out of the car ~
I'd love to see 40 degrees vent temps, I know that R134a has a lower working pressure than the R12 our W123's were desinged with so I'm thinking of trying to find my AC gauges and fiddling with the pressures to see if that gets me colder air .
TIA,

OK, I found a loose wire at the compressor, which I probably bumped loose when I installed the skid plate, though it took another month to stop working, and another month to figure out what happened. Added a little more r134 to top it up. Happy it wasn't the compressor, and that I have A/C during the Santa Ana wind season.
I'll try to swap out my alternator this weekend, in between tree trimming.
