This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

O.K. ;
I went by Pep Boys and bought new fuel filters both (Secondary is Purolator # F 50359 it's made in Germany)
and dated the secondary , I'm near 1/4 tank and when the low fuel light comes on I will change them both before filling up again , I usually use some sort of Diesel Purge to fill the spin on filter but this time I'll use Startron as well as add 6 ~ 8 Oz. to the full tank .
I'm planning to try and follow through to the end (meaning clear intake screen) this time but every time I try to do this , something else happens , now it's a weepy radiator .
Stay tuned for more of Nate's mis adventures with dirty fuel .
It drizzled a bit here just after sun up but the pavements are dry now , the clouds are heavy but occasionally I see the sun *almost* peek through .

I am having trouble with the air filter connections. The round nuts at the bottom of the housing keep loosening, and the ushaped hose from the air filter to the turbo keeps falling off. I know it prolly needs new rubber gaskets which go inside etc. but my mechanic (somewhat knows diesels), says that I should replace the whole filter assembly with one of those 'universal air filters' from Autozone etc.
At one end it would fit, with a hose clamp etc to the air inlet at the hood and the the other end would be clamped to the turbo inlet. The pvc pipe at the top of the engine would be routed to the inlet where this blow-by exhaust air actually goes.
This would be a clean solution, and I see no drawbacks, but would like to know if anyone has done this, or has any thoughts.
****Have not posted in a while****but have been reading the posts in email semi-regularily.***
Thanks in advance.

Remember when the druggie neighbors backed their truck into my grille ? .
They hit it so hard the bent the AC Condenser into a 'U' shape , broke the AC fan , bent the radiator core support and the fan cut a hole through the top of the plastic fan shroud .
Everything worked O.K. so I bought a new AC fan and grille , installed both and have been driving it since then .
To - day as I was returning from shopping I stopped to buy SWMBO some Coffee and as I came out of the Winchell's , I see coolant dripping......
Oh great , now what ? .
I pop the hood and the upper tank to core seam of my custom made all metal radiator is weeping just a little bit ~ I squeeze the top hose and feel pressure but when I squeeze it , coolant bubbles out .
I'm supposed to drive it to Death Valley in three weeks......
SWMBO says I can drive her '82 240D there .
Last time I did that , I blew a water pump in Rhyolite , Nev. costing me several days and over $2,000 .
The ' fun ' ~ it never ends .

Let us know what you do. We all are tired of the t-bracket and mounts failing which seems to be a design problem that no one ever fixed. There must be a Peach Tree or Mercedes Source solution to this routine failure (other than replace it every 2 or 3 years)

Alan, Yes. The broken bracket is at the root of the problem, I think.
A while ago, my engine mounts were going bad,and the engine was shaking. The bracket likely broke then, and I also replaced the round airfilter mounts a couple of times. I replaced the engine mounts, but the air filter has gotten worse, and the u shaped hose falls off regularly. The Y-bracket is very expensive, and I have not been able to locate one in the junkyards here in MD.Soooo just wanting to replace the whole setup with a simple "universal' filter with just hose connections at either end. And wondering if there is a drawback. I myself don't like to tinker with the MB setup, as originally designed, but I think this new filter would be an improvement, at least in maintenance. But I don't want to create another problem, which someone here may know more of.ThanksManjeet1984 300sd.......odometer stopped at 250k 10 years ago...prolly at 500k by now.
