Course we just pulled in to a hotel in Tucson, and the blooming battery is low, waiting for a tow truck to give us a boost, then hopefully we go & buy a new batt, if it is the alternator, you will hear the swearing all the way to LA.
PS your opinion, can we trust it to hold together for another 2,000 miles, given that it is intermittent, and is silent for 20 to 50 miles, then we stop and it is quiet again.
Tony.

Stop look can find no problems, go again and this repeats over and over. Put the car up on a hoist cannot find any prob. Pull into Los Banos California, pull the passenger side rear wheel, the caliper is sticking, so we replace caliper, do about 50 miles clatter again. Boots on the Passenger side 1/2 shaft are not great, exhaust system donuts are not great, car is overloaded in rear, has all our stuff for Mexico on board. The noise sounds rotational, sounds like it is near rear wheel passenger side, rotor is running cool, drive shaft and rear 1/2 shafts seem ok, no slop or end movement, hub seems ok and is not running hot.
> We and four decent mechanics are stumped. We adjusted the valves and put in new glow plugs, and new injector return lines on tuesday. Car drives normally. In my life have never seen an intermittent like this, and we are afraid to cross into Mexico with a car that might shut down on the highway. We in Beaumont Ca., a little east of LA and are dazed and confused please if you have any ideas we could really use a clue.
