Brian,
That's about the same with me (24-25mpg), though if it's all city, it's
closer to 23mpg.
A little over 25mpg is the best I've seen.

Thanks Mark.
yeah, I agree. I use the WMO, but, mix it with regular diesel. Sort of like
the bread crumbs in meatloaf........to make more.
It seems to really cut down on the smoke and fumes, but, I still get the
savings from the WMO.
The centrifuge seems to be working fine.
I also use a diesel additive, had been using Power Service with this mix.
I just found another company, good prices and seems a good product, that I'm
experimenting with, now.

In my opinion, Henry's got the right approach. Waste Motor Oil (WMO) can be
used as a fuel, BUT, it really needs to be cleaned as much as possible. Do a
search of the archives to read about what he's doing. (I'd use "centrifuge"
as a search keyword.)
I've run as much as 100% pure, uncentrifuged oil. Power is WAAAAAAY down,
and the smell and smoke is quite noxious. I wouldn't recommend it. The
biggest fear I have with it is the always present acid found in used motor
oil. I don't think it would hurt the engine, per se, but, it could/probably
would damage the little precision parts found in the injection pump.
Used transmission fluid is much less problematic.

I run WMO, but, after centrifuging it.

Someone recently suggested that he ran his 1985 turbo diesel on a combo of
regular diesel and old used engine oil, mixed 50-50.
Anyone ever know of this kind of a fuel mix. Old oil is probably free in
lots of places, especially my drive way.

HHHmmmmmmmmmmm I don't remember that, Max.
Can you be more specific?
I am trying a new product, a fuel stabilizer from "PRI".

No you can dissolve salt into oil.I tried that salt cracking to make biodiesel.I tasted finished product.Full of salt,no way going in my engine.I should have tried washing it,to remove salt. --- On Fri, 6/17/11, n61cm <jim@tazwade.com> wrote:

Does veggie oil become acidic or just the water in the oil? I don't think oil will dissolve salt but water in the oil can have salt in it from cooking.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] cleaning wmo.
yeah, it does a good job of de-watering.
from 25 gallons of WMO, that had gone straight to sealed containers, and sat
to settle for a year, and, I drew from a few inches off the bottom of the
barrel, so any water would stay, it still got about 1 oz of water.

I know one guy with wvo uses baking soda to lower acid content.Your machine
would easly spin the water out of oil.

I'll be interested in your result, Nate. Thanks.
since I dilute my WMO, and the centrifuge is taking it to less than 1 micron
(according to the owner/engineer of the company), I'm thinking acid and
abrasives are not much of an issue.

Just to see what kinda revs people are turning, at 3,000 rpm I am doing
right about 60 mph - is that high gearing or just average?
