Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : 80 300SD vacuum diagram
Hi Nate
Mark in TX sent a pic of the diagram on his 116. I forwarded it to Kevin. He seems to think that's what he needs.
I hope you've book marked & downloaded that W-116 manual , you'll be referring to it for years to come .
When I lived in abandoned trailers in Rural New England , we make plywood skirts between the floor and the ground ~ fitting the skirts tightly prevents the wind from whistling underneath and freezing you nearly to death .
Rich folks (honest , I knew some) used fibreglas insulation inside the skirts and it was actually _warm_ underneath ,
Kevin found something like that on Craigs list for about $8 a sheet! One side is white the other is multi-color striped. I made sure we put the white side out! It sure did make a difference to cut the wind. Under the deck, Kevin cut a hole just big enough for the outdoor cats to escape if they are being chased. They have spent very cold nights under the house and come out toasty warm.
I know because I had to go fix the danged water pipes more than once in January , both fresh and grey water pipes...
[diesel_mercedes] Re : 80 300SD vacuum diagram
O.K. Trish ;
Keep on plugging away at it , you'll get there and when you do , ZOWIE ! you'll soon learn why the Mercedes W-116 Diesel Sedan was the most popular car they ever built . the 1979 year model (identical to your 1980) was the biggest selling year .
Me , I prefer the W-123 Chassi but you have a sweetie there , even when old & battered .
You'll see .

[diesel_mercedes] Walking In A Winter Wonderland

WOW even in the insulated areas I can't walk barefoot in the winter! We live in the middle of a 25 acre pasture in a mobile home someone gave us for free...for a reason! I can now add taping/bedding & mudding to my skill set! We're on a hill, awesome view, but part of the house is 4' off the ground. I so want a brick/mortar house on the ground! With floors that have water running through them to heat or cool! Ahhhhh. Kevin had a friend in WA that had heated floors in his garage.

WOW nearly submersible! How fun!!
Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: The right wrench for the valve adjustment - To Chip
My dogs have nice warm homes too. Kevin built them with T1-11 siding. Two of the houses were built in 2000 and have been moved 2x, you'd never know it, they are still solid. They used to be insulated and carpeted till the dogs spent the first summer dragging every piece outside. We figured they didn't need it when we saw them come out the following winter and steam was coming off of them!
I learned a lesson a few winters ago. Thought I was being smart by disconnecting the dryer vent to heat the back room. Oops. I wound up with a room full of mildew! You can do what I did, there is a special vent for that. My sister in Alaska has it on her dryer. It takes the moisture out of the air and before it circulates the dry air through the room.
I dont have water heat in the floors but do have insulated rock skirting around the edge and in the joists there is fiberglass and under that is 2" of foam and everything is buttoned up tight, no air leaks. But we have to have the stove going to be barefoot. It used to get -20 every winter, but much milder the last 10 years but still way too cold to start diesel cars with a off grid system, too hard to use the block heaters. The dogs have a very nice cozy warm nest though. mAX

NICE! OK so in comparison my driveway may not be so bad...I'll upload the pics in a bit, you decide!
Looks like a place in CA we used to go play in the mud. Gee, what was that placed called??? Rhetorical question of course. Hard to remember, that was about 30yrs ago in my drinking days.
Here, Trish. Maybe you could use one of these!

We come off of the paved farm road, secure anything like phones, drinks, glasses, mail, groceries, get in the grooves, much like a ride at an amusement park, punch it and go!!!! Don't stop till you get to the house! It's always a fun ride, particularly when we hit the hill! Yeeeee Hawwwww!!!!
I'm so looking forward to getting my car back on the road..but I'm full of trepidation of our driveway. I sure could use a 4WD! I can only imagine how badly this thing is going to sink. I got my Cutlass Supreme stuck for 3 days last winter! I did learn one thing...if I get stuck I just have to wait for it to get cold enough to make the ground solid.
