[diesel_mercedes] Re: TD, CD & Sedan automatic antennas.

Wagon Hirschmann antennas are different .

The Sedans and coupes more or less interchange , there's different support brackets depending on the length of the tube between the motor and the fender .

Plus , some have smaller pins in the electrical plug , be sure to look in your trunk and see what typ you have before paying any $ at the junkyard .

99 % of the time , if it's fully retracted , it's fine and needs only cleaning the mast then lubricating it with some silicone spray on a rag to make it work properly .

Some have a rubber pop in fender grommet , others have a chrome screw on part .

There are only two different masts , some have teeth on the nylon drive cable , some do not .

I've had mixed but mostly good results using the wrong mast in the wrong motor .

Unless you're a fanatical fool like me , it's *much* easier to $pend le$$ and buy a nice Japanese made Harada power antenna , new they're under $50 and the old ones in Camry's etc. all work fine and cost about $15 .

I like my original Hirschmann power antennas and clean and lubricate the mast with silicone every month or so or whenever it begins to squeal or not go all the way up or down and SWMBO complains.....

[diesel_mercedes] Re: OC PAP 50% off in SoCal/ There's a 300TD sitting there

I wish I'da gone .

Tom and I walked the Sun Valley Pick-A-Part to -day and I found a full set of all three middle seat head rests ! I've been looking ever since I bought SWMBO's '84 300TD , I almost got them out of the yard clean , just a few finger marks I'll clean up with Meguiar's # 40 cleaner before sneaking them into her Wagon , she'll be well pleased as I'm always ' On The Hunt ' for some little thing to make it ever better .

If that Volvo backlight has a rubber grommet , you'll need a carpet knife with a brand new blade , I always make sure to take several blades as I usually break one or two in removing a glass ~ if it rattles when you shake it , there's new blades inside the handle .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: TD, CD & Sedan automatic antennas.

You can buy universal replacement antennas on ebay starting at $7 with free shipping. They work OK but not good for road trips. Reception fades about 30 miles out of town. Stock antenna gets 60+ miles reception same stations. You can probably find some better ones...I am thinking about dropping $8 on a replacement metal mast for my universal rubber antenna. That mast is 31 inches long (vs the rubber mast of 16 inches). Doesn't retract but I'm guessing it would perform similar to stock antenna, without the retract fun and games.
