Re: [diesel_mercedes] w123 Key & Tumbler Replacement

One of your guys on about a 123,   I don't need one.  It just came up in a question about door keys.  I've ordered keys through our local dealer.

I've seen complete sets for sale, so you'll just have one key.
I'll try to find the link.
I've got one to do, a friend's 85 300td.  The cylinder won't turn at all.
Should be interesting with that hardened lock ring.
I'm thinking, drilling is the most likely solution, without damaging the dash.  It needs a carbide bit though.

[diesel_mercedes] SoCal PAPs 50% off sale

SoCal PAPs 50% off sale
http://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/

If you click a location, you can check inventory.

I stopped by today to see if it's worth going tomorrow, during the sale,
and maybe hide something :)
There was a Volvo we wanted to get trim from, and the trim was cheap
enough to just pickup today.

Anaheim had 1 MB 123 '84 300D gold/palomino, with many parts left.
http://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/locations/LKQ_Pick_Your_Part_-_Anaheim-265/recents/

I may stop by in the morning to pull a few things.
Early, as it's going to get hot.

Re $3.99 / gallon - went back the next day to fill my car up, and there was yellow tape up everywhere and they were draining the tanks to rehab everything. Proving once again, don't procrastinate - strike while the iron is hot, etc, etc, etc.

You guys realize that you are eating into the truckers fuel mileage, don't you.
If you aggravate them enough, on a trip, they'll set you up for the cops.

Oh wait!

RE: [diesel_mercedes] alignment

Performance bushings: I think stiffer bushings would be poly (polyethylene). These are available for most suspensions. You may have to look around. Here is one person’s experience.

I needed an upper ball joint and decided to replace both.  Good thing.

Both sides were this way, and the other ball joint was dry as a bone.  Just ready to fail.
I put in new sway bar bushings at the same time.  I wonder if anyone makes hard, performance bushings for these cars.  That would do a lot for handling over all these squishy ones.
I would say, if you are having camber problems, this control arm is your most likely suspect.

Very easy job.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] w123 Key & Tumbler Replacement

Thanks for the info.  I have the problem solved.  When my Daughter years ago broke a key off in the ignition I removed the steering column.  Its easier to work on it outside of the car.

[diesel_mercedes] compression

The manual gives compression specs at 20-22 bar (290-319psi)

I get 400 on 3 cyls, 300 on the front one.  Am I using incorrect units or something?

What is the normal range in psi?

Also, is there a common cause of loosing pressure in number one?
