Re: [diesel_mercedes] 80 Ampere Alternator

I do have a bosch voltage regulator, with about 3/8" left on the brushes. While changing the oil today, I removed the voltage regulator, looked at, and measured the brushes.

How long are the brushes when new?

The regulators are about half the cost of a factory rebuilt Bosch alternator, so may buy a rebuilt one.

They had just the one Rob ;

I was working on the turbo and wiped the caked on grease off as my arm kept getting filthy, then I spotted the old BOSH rebuilt tag and took a closer look because our W123's all came only with 55 ampere alternators .

That's why I took the bracket too ~ I don't know if it'll fit but why not ? it was on an OM627 5 cylinder turbo charged Diesel engine....

I hope you're installed a BOSCH brand regulator, they really do make a difference .

Oops, gotta go , dinner .

Where did you get the 80 amp alternator? Did they have more?

Is t a direct fit? What car was it for?

My alternator is under charging pretty bed, and it hasn't been that long since changing out the voltage regulator, so it might be shot.

I'll need to check voltage regulator.

[diesel_mercedes] The Flip Side......

...Of just doing it is of course : beating your self to death .

I spent most of Thursday in my recliner recovering from Wednesday's odyssey .

To - day I put in 5 - 1/2 hours of hard works, the driver's door is all done and looks nice, works perfectly and even has a good map pocket on it once more .

I found the broken off tab and glued it back on with Gorilla Glue, we'll see how well if at all that works .

I also removed and serviced three of the six seat belts, it's amazing how much lint can collect on the 'B' pillars (they're hollow) and then transfer to the seat belt webbing, making them slow to retract and stiff & nasty too .

As long as I was down in the rear foot wells undoing the driver & R.F. passenger seats belt bottoms, I removed the drop in carpets and vacuumed under the front seats then decided to break out the foamy carpet cleaner and do a quickie clean of some old oil spills and shoe polish ~ the black sports are now gone, I guess in time I'll yank the front seats  and shampoo the whole carpets and floor underneath......

I have so much practice cleaning old seat belts I can do one in abut 45 minutes now from the time it goes in the kitchen sink to squeaky clean and ready to hand up to dry .

I decided to clean underneath the folded up middle seat, there's a cute little rubber mat underneath it so it's nice and tidy plus you can carry things there once it's all clean .

Of course there are a bunch of interior trims and covers I had to remove in order to access the seat belts so they all had to be scrubbed hospital clean too, the 'B' pillar covers are metal covered by Palomino colored M-B Tex, who knows what happened to the passenger side one but it has little cuts in it, if I'm lucky it's the same as the W123 sedan and I'll find a good used one, clean and install it, if not I may hunt up some Palomino M-B Tex and recover it my ownself, it's not terribly hard, just use 3M Automotive spray upholstery adhesive and be really, _really_ careful about positioning it and clamping the edges over with chip clips and cloths pins .

Still more to do of course but i'm always happy to make progress .

Everywhere I go people want to talk about this wagon and ask me to sell it .

Still looking for rear seat belts, I had a pair I thought maybe I could adapt but I was *so* tired Wednesday night I out them away God alone knows where......

Sigh .
