Now do a cold valve adjust and add some silver bottle Diesel Kleen to the tank and you're mostly ready for Winter .

Dead glow plugs will cause the light not to light.  I assume the flat fuse at the end of the relay box is intact,clean and tight.  The fastest way to check the glow plugs is with a continuity tester.  Disconnect the plug in the relay box and check for continuity between the wire at the head of the glow plug and ground.  This won't tell you how good the plug is, but it will tell you if it is working at all.
