[diesel_mercedes] Alignment

A tie rod loose is an easy 30 second test , you cannot get accurate alignment work done with any perceptible play anywhere in the front end .

I used a 13MM 3/8" drive socket on a knuckle attached to a long extension , it was tricky but do able sans any special tools .

Remember when I asked if anyone was interested in a writeup with lots of details and photos while it was fresh in my mind ? .

That's why I asked , after a week or so the details get fuzzy until the next time  do a specific job , that's the nature of the beast .

The 13MM ATF nuts behind the brake booster are a serious PIA , some you have to turn one flat at a time so rather frustrating as well as time consuming but it really is do able at home and again : I feel DIY'ers can easily do a better job BECAUSE YOU CARE and are not fighting the clock .

Nate,

I'm guessing a tie-rod end is bad, though it could be the swaybar bushings too. I couldn't figure how to get to the drivers side bushing, without pulling the brake booster, as it's way too to tight in there.
Not tomorrow...

Rob ;

Even if the ball joints and control arm bushings are O.K. , I'd look seriously hard at the sway bar bushings as they directly affect caster and overall handling .

It's a fiddly job but not overly difficult , you can do it on your wonderful smooth and flat wide open driveway in the shade , radio softly playing......

I'll try to get some Michelin tires tomorrow, and maybe an alignment, though I think it needs some work.

I'm pretty sure rain , like snow , is illegal in Los Angeles ~ we had a heavy bit of it about three weeks ago , I think I'll write a letter of complain to City Hall .

[diesel_mercedes] Serviceing FUN

Well Brian ;

At least we're still able to hobble out to the car and tinker with it , to me that's a very precious gift indeed .

Here in La La Land , home to Fruits , Nuts and Flakes , Spring also means we'll be sweating like chris christie every time he opens his lying mouth .

[diesel_mercedes] Flexible Fuel Filler Hose

THANX Bill ! .

I tried all those , body , fuel / air , engine , emissions , exhaust , anything I could  think of , even the RD and W(4X4) series .

FLAPS just laughs , only a few Countermen even know what the heck I'm asking for .

The City's upper echelon boobs used to hassle me for stocking this stuff , i ran the night shop and of course , that's when they needed it the most : @ 0-Dark:30 in the middle of a broken sewer line job or something....

Guess who was the _only_ person in the entire City of Los Angeles who tried to keep fuel filler hose in stock , pre charged all the time ? .

Notice there is a D200 and a RD200; next they ask for engine size. Your turn

I will guess they're expensive.

If it is flexible, pull it off and go to FLAPS. They can probably come up with a close fit; then cut to fit.

That will also cost bucks, but not as much as the Mercedes equivalent.

Because you alls are not posting much , feel free to use your DELETE button now , no whining ! .

I worked on Tom's 1979 dodge D200 crew cab service bed truck all day Friday , getting it road worthy again and I need some help finding the fuel filler neck hose for it's Utility brand service bed ~ it needs to be flexible and flexible filler hose is like looking for chickens teeth .

[diesel_mercedes] Routine Service And Repair

Thank you Odin ;

I try my best .

After I replaced the rear calipers on Tom's W-126 Saturday we headed off to my favorite local Junk Yard to look for old Dodge trucks and/or Service Bed equipped rigs to harvest fuel filler parts from , as we were leaving I discovered a 1979 Dodge D200 long bed " Adventurer " (means extra cost fully loaded) Camper Special that appears to have the correct original BIG @$$ 18 Gallon  Polyethlene (!) fuel tank in it , going back to - morrow to see if I can use parts off it .

There's yet another weird and wild story of exploding tires in Tennessee in July far from anywhere so it now has a 1949 Chevy 1/2 ton filler neck I'm keen to replace with the correct original one , moreso since Tom parked this replacement one against the security gate and mangled it recently....

Stay tuned , I hope to have happy news before long , ga$oline dripping on the ground is always a bad thing , plus worriesome and expen$ive to boot .

Still no joy on finding flexible fuel filler hose , it's gotta be out there as most Service beds use it....
