Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Steel vs Alloy lug length - PAP trip
Maybe 50 cents from PAP. But, I don't like the idea of using "used" ones because I am not 18 anymore. You don't know who torqued them down to what specs and whether they are structurally sound or not. Chances are used ones are fine, I just prefer new ones when it comes to brakes, wheels, and other parts that can kill me. If you spend $50 at Autohaus you get free shipping and 20-30 lugs bolts can weigh a ton.

If any one is hitting a PAP in the near future, and happen to see a some W123 with Bundts and the correct lugs, see what they want and let me know.
If it its not to bad, I would be willing to pay you for the lugs, shipping and a finders fee.
Local retail shops (Advance) are asking $60+ for only 10.
For that price I will pick up 2 cheapy tires for my steel rims and resell the Bundts.
Heading out side to put the steelies back on. 8o(
Thanks !

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Steel vs Alloy lug length - PAP trip
I am in NH and had no luck at the local PAPs. They are still crushing cars as soon as they come in for scrap.

On the postive side, the 5 lb pull to the right is gone and the vibes under braking also gone.
I would have never thought a tire could have caused a pull and vibe like I was experiencing.
Now, to hunt down the right lugs.

Looks like it will be one slow ride home from work.
On the postive side, the 5 lb pull to the right is gone and the vibes under braking also gone.
I would have never thought a tire could have caused a pull and vibe like I was experiencing.
Now, to hunt down the right lugs.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] When do glow plugs go off?

You can also leave the door open. When the interior light gets brighter, the plugs are off.You can hear the "clunk" when relay shuts off indicating the glow plugs are hot enough to burn the fuel. Somewhere between 10 and 15 seconds. Don't pay any attention to the dash light, mine goes off earlier than it should. The sound of the "clunk" will never fail you.

Rodger,
Nate knows more than I.
The plugs can not have zero resistance, but their resistance is so low - 2 or 3 ohms - that a meter may report it as zero.
If the plug has burned out, it will have infinite resistance, in other words there is no connection between the shell of the plug and the stud sticking out for the power wire.
I have the impression they should stay on for about 10 seconds. (My DPO replaced the official relay with an on - off relay, so I have to guess at mine.)

Hello All
In my 1978 300D the glow plugs are powered after the light goes off.
I think they are in parallel a circuit so they may be the faster plugs.
How long should they stay on?
If I am using my ohm meter correctly there are zero ohms resistance on the plugs. I will have a friend check the resistance. in case I am wrong.
Could the plugs staying on cause the plugs to burn out and have no resistance? (the car will not start)
Where is the glow plug relay? I looked at pictures on ebay but can not find it.
thank you
Rodger

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Steel vs Alloy lug length
Steve, I have wire wheels and thereby discovered that there are two
styles of lugs. DPO had a "locked up wheel" incident, so be careful.
