Send a digital picture of it to my address below. I can probably figure out what you have in there.

Hi It is getting cold here in Mo. so I thought that I ewould
connect a block heater. When I looked under the 300d on the right
side of block there is what looks like a plug in has two prongs and
is threaded on the out side no wire hook up. If this is `the block heater than I think that I could modify a plug to fit and plug it into
110 elc. Does all this look about right? Thanks Gene

The interesting thing in the NY metro area is that there seems to be an inordinate percentage of Hispanic owners.  They seem to have figured out  the intrinsic value, low operating cost and low maintenance cost of the 80's 300D.

Actually in high school my daughter wrecked her first car a 115 gasser.  Not being the smartest guy around, I let her have a 240D then a series of 300Ds.  She has, at rough count,  wrecked or done significant damage to at least for 80's MB diesels.  She has a various times attacked and lost battles with a beer truck and a garbage truck.  At no time has she been injured and the cars for the most part have been repairable.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Block Heater

Both my 240's came from Cali, so no block heaters. I put one in each. My 1980 4 spd. was not too bad to get the plug out. It took a 17mm allen, which I had one left over from a past life of messing around with VW's. The 1981 auto was so hard to get out I could not do it. Also it took a 19mm allen, which I did not have and had to buy it for around $30. Guess how many times I used it. I had to use about a 6 foot pipe on the end of the giant allen. Attached to the six foot pipe was my over six foot kid. He had to use so much force I thought the engine was gonna come out of the car. But it didn't and we got the plug out. I think we took the starter out and some other stuff too. I would think on a turbo it would be really a hard job. But wow, these block heaters work really good. Max

Has any one added the "real" setup latley, in a car that did not have one?

The plug that has been in the hole has been in there for 25 years and who knows how many heat cycles.

I am afraid it is going to be a PITA to get out to install the real MB block heater.

Thanks,
Steve

I have not looked at mine, I dont have a light issue (yet), but do have a constant rattle from the GB Door and have to reach over about a dozen times during my daily commute to silence it, or risk hearing damage from the radio when used to cover up the rattle.

Thanks for the info !
