[diesel_mercedes] So. Cal. TT Ride

Whew ! another one in the bag, one fellow went too hot into a corner, low sided his Moto and pranged the guardrail, breaking two ribs, dislocating his shoulder and getting a BIG hematoma on his neck, during the time he spent in the emergency room his lungs collected some water so they decided to keep him a day or three for observation ~ it could have been far worse .

In total we drove 565 miles and had the whale of a good time, I was able to keep up with the motos pretty well .

We encountered two closed roads and so had to back track a fair bit .

I only got 24.5 MPG's , not too bad as every chance I thought it to be safe I pinned the throttle and hummed right along @ 100 ~ 107 MPH, this blew more super fine silt free from deep inside  the injection pump, this turned the paper filters brown .

Interestingly, in remote hamlets like Arvin,Ca. people kept telling me how much they liked my old Mercedes Diesel Sports Coupe *:x lovestruck (me too !) .

As I exited the freeway last night I suddenly had a serious paucity of power, I barely made it to the celebratory dinner and this morning after I (again) cleaned the occluded fuel out of the injection pump, the engine started but refused to rev. up at all ~ I discovered the rubber vibration damper in the throttle linkage had given up the ghost ~ looking in the trunk I discovered two zip ties and used them to lash the parted rubber isolator more or less to - gether and drove to buy more zip ties, some mechanic's wire and skedaddled to $tarbuck$ to go OnLine and order up a new isoltator  and some other bits and bobs I needed at the same time . (Mercedes Classic Center *:x lovestruck) .

I also changed the paper element fuel filters one more time and drained and refilled the power steering pump, it's not dead black any more, more like deep brown but it still smells burnt so I'll keep changing it until it remains red and sweet smelling .

I replaced the power antenna that refuses to retract that final inch *:-S worried with a good used junk yard unit that works a treat but is black instead of chrome which I prefer .

There's probably lots more but I'm still beat tired to - day .
