Look carefully for wire damage. Under the dash, hood, etc.
I had a Ford Pinto that the clutch petal was touching the wiring harness
under the hood. I would push in the clutch and the windshield wipers
would run. The pedal was shorting out two wires after it wore through
the insulation. Other things started happening like the horn, starter, etc.
