Well a chance to tell my Morgan story.
Was working on construction in Vancouver BC raining again wintertime. We were all very wet and very cold so they shut the job down at lunch time. Was touring home in said Moggie, with the heater(?) going full blast. Had my rain gear jacket on but was feeling very cold. There was a large puddle (small lake) so of course I had to race through the deepest part, whence I discovered that the wooden floor boards were not fastened down. Water was shooting up, up my nose up my shirt, inside my rain gear, up my vision and all the way up to the rag top. Water has a very unique property, it seeks its lowest level, after the water hit the lid, it all, yes every drop of it, cascaded down Niagara falls like, upon the head & face of our feckless hero. Now our really really cold hero, once he can see again, continues the drive home but avoiding where ever poss the puddles. A hot bath and warm libation took away the pain, but nothing will ever take away the memory. (absent old timers disease)
Tony.

Marvel Mystery Oil , a <magical> elixir that you add 4 Oz. to each fillup of fuel and in a Diesel engine , it lubricates the injection pump , preventing it from wearing .
It also retards valve and valve seat wear .
Good stuff , also very useful in older Gasoline engines designed to run on leaded fuel .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Exhaust Smoke
Mine is doing as you describe yours doing, but also really bad acceleration, and super lumpy idle when hot. I pulled one from a Pick-A-Part for $40 dollars from an '83 123 (a beautiful car that really SHOULDN'T have been been there, but....). Once I swap out my IP, I'm going to tear down my old one and see what's in there....

Yes maybe ;
The black smoke is obviously fuel related and I did have some water & fungus issues _after_ I installed a full set of brandy new Monark injectors so I'll begin there , by pop testing them and seeing if any drool or if the nozzles might have blown out , it only takes _one_ water contamination in the fuel tank to do this .
The blue smoke coupled with high oil usage , OTOH , has me concerned as 350 ~ 400 miles per quart is way too high for a $5,000 engine rebuild with new cylinder sleeves etc.
We shall see , I will get it sorted out one way or t'other , rest assured of this .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : water pump bolt I can not reach question 1978 300D
I used a Craftsman 1/4-inch drive deep well socket with adapter to 3/8-inch drive ratchet to get that bolt out on my '77. The 1/4-inch version has a thinner wall than the 3//8-inch. Try to use a 6-point; they're less likely to strip the bolt or to crack.
How's the AC system? This is a good time to either replace or rebuild the York compressor, as it's got to come off to get to a bolt (or two?) to remove the mounting bracket. Rebuild kits are still available, price is something like $12 to $15.
This job is a big-time PIA....

That bracket appears to be the mount for the aftermarket AC system your car is equipped with , sadly you'll have to loosen or remove it , usually there's a 90° bend in part of the bracket , find that and the bolt in that bent part , loosen or remove to allow sufficient movement to access the bolt .
Remember to hand file the opening in the bracket so the next time you'll be able to reach this 10MM ATF bolt easily . use a large round file only to prevent stress cracks from occurring .
I hope this helps .

One time I had a 1963 VW bug. It was rusted out behind the drivers seat. One day I gave a girl a ride to work and she set her lunch behind the drivers seat. When we got to work it was no where to be found. I later turned that car into a German drain, sort of like a French drain but a VW instead of a pit of rocks. Drill a hole in the floor? Never. Not me. O.K. , we drove (I drove , she rode , stop nit picking) to Las Vegas for the weekend , bumper to bumper stop and go traffic all the way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas_AND_ back again , GRrrr........
I had the AC on full tilt boogie the entire time , lots and lots of idling when I'd run into some store or whatever and SWMBO would sit in the idling car with the AC going.....
First tank 423 miles 27.2 MPG
Second tank 380 miles 27.4 MPG .
I still have about 1/3 a tank to finish yet .
The engine is beginning to smoke more than I like , oil smoke , light blue and it uses a quart of oil before 400 miles , not correct .
It also blows out a cloud of black fuel smoke every time I leave a dead stop .
Stay tuned , I'll be dipping into it pretty soon .
The intake fuel screen remains clean , I've been using 4 Oz. of Startron and 4 Oz. of MMO each fillup .
That's it , I'm beat & going to bed , see if I can make it to work to - morrow or not .
