.
Well ;
My Brother showed up last night and took me to dinner, he carries comprehensive tools so I asked him if he wanted to go and I could maybe get some unbroken rear seat belts (ding-dang Fister kids keep slamming the rear doors on the buckles as I'm hollering " MIND THE SEAT BELTS PLEASE ! " so both rear buckles now have broken plastic...
Anyways , the '85 W123 had broekn buckles and the '81 240D's were different , I decided to look closer at this fairly clean old car and discovered it had a freshly rebuilt starter motor and brandy new glow plugs plus the fuel looked clean and the injectors had been rebuilt not long ago so I grabbed the headliner out of a Toyota and the trunk mat from a Mitsubishi and crawled under neath this old thing , got to work .
It also had a full length oil cooler , something I've been pondering adding to our car , grabbed that too and in the end they charged me $101.93 for everything , no warantee , no cores etc. .
I was able to find some plastic bags to wrap things up in, the starter weighs a ton and Tom cut a deployed air bag off a steering wheel so I could carry it easier .
As usual, I'm quite pleased and picked up some good German hardware that was just scattered all over the ground .
Me, I think this car looked good enough to have been saved and put back on the road but what do I know, right ? .
Besides a 240D is kinda pokey and slow .
This '81 non California model had NO E.G.R. valve ! wow .
I considered taking the entire manifolds and updating out '82 but passed .
Coming back I spotted a local hand car wash to raise $ for some College kids who's off the L.A. for a kick fighting tourney, $5 well spent but it began pouring rain as they were trying to dry it off ~ they got super apologetic , I'm happy as no more road dust / grime / Diesel smoot / dead bugs on it !
.
I hope everyone has a nice , quiet and SAFE Labor Day weekend ! .
