[diesel_mercedes] vwNate: Re: Glow Plugs : Resistance And Proper Testing
Hi Chuck ;
I wound up replacing the GP relay as that was bad under load , the car still flashes & beeps but the glow plugs now heat for 30 seconds if I wait that long , I just wait for the flashing & beeping to stop and it lights off *instantly* .
I guess the shorted glow plugs killed the relay ? . I dunno .
In time , I'll yank the dash binnacle and see what's up in there , write a post about what I find .
I drove the car 160 miles to-day , it is amazingly smooth & quiet .
I'm sure my sweet will love it .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR !!
Yes , it was thankyouverymuch !
SWMBO & I drove to Las Vegas in my long bed GMC pickup truck at her suggestion as last year I had to leave behind cherry W-123 European bumpers @ $25.00 each...
We hit the Henderson P-A-P before checking into our room and no Mercedes parts for me this time =8-( .
It wasn't a total loss as I did find a driver's side mirror for my truck , some local jerkoff clipped & shattered it then drove off a few days before the trip .
We spent the entire rest of the time there to-gether , NO KIDS ~ what a nice time .
It's good to be back , I took the 84/85 Euro 300TD to a restoration place to-day and he gave me a bargain price to not only repair the accident damage but to re - spray the whole car & remove all the _copious_ dings , scrapes & rasberries they DPO's left in it .
I'm stoked ! SWMBO will be well pleased I'm having the whole thing re - sprayed , I hope I am too , looking at his other works makes me confident I'll be happy .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Rubber muffler hangers for 123
1. The rubber one with bicycle chain inside is harder to put on, will last forever, and is more expensive
2. I order the rubber donuts which are cheaper, easier to put on, and inspect them at least semi annually. I also wrap a 4"-6" piece of a coat hanger on 1 or 2 holders as a safety valve.
3. Had a muffler hit the ground once (after I hit a speed bump). Had coat hangers in the trunk. Put the muffler back up with coat hangers at 10:30pm in Palm Springs after dinner, drove back to L.A. and ran that way for 5 years - only changed back to donuts because people laughed at me.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] PAP Visits
The PAP in Monrovia always have great selection on Mercedes. Everytime I go... I always see at least 1 w123 there. Once a few months ago... I saw 3 240d with manual trannys. It was so wierd to see so many at once.

[diesel_mercedes] Cruise Control
Some weeks ago I saw an OM617 with NO cruise control hardware. I tucked it away as "interesting" but not critical to my way of life as I never use cruise control and mine doesn't work anyway. But, I did notice that my accelerator linkage on Mary was stiffer than the accelerator linkage on Martha. So while doing my weekly maintenance and looking at the cruise control linkage I decided to remove the rod that connects to the cruise control (which I don't use, need, or want anyway).
And, presto! My foot pedal and accelerator are my friend again. I may have to get some better linkage (straighter & at right angles) but for now, I think I did something good.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] parts
I'm in Grass Valley, I'm sure I have one or more, if you want to come get
one.
I've got two 123's for parts cars.
Let me know, and I'll go check to make sure I have a good one.
Pay me what you think is fair.
