Have a question, do W123 wagons (I have a '85 300TD) use the same outside door window seals as the sedans?
[diesel_mercedes] Window seals for '85 300TD wagon
[diesel_mercedes] Why I Love SWMBO
She's been pestering me to fill the fuel tank on her 240D as I always wash the windows , check the fluids and tires etc. , top up as necessary , blah blah blah.....
I said " no worries I know it has at least 1/3 tank and besides , you didn't buy any ' Diesel Go-Go Juice ' yet , we ran out two tankfulls ago...."
She asked me where I bought it and then drove directly there (the AutoZone near her house) and asked for " the silver bottle of Power Service Diesel Kleen " , the counter boob tried to give her a box full of something so she called me on the 'phone and handed it to him , I explained what we wanted and she bought it .
She's smart and take charge when she deems it necessary .
It would only be better if she wasn't afraid of the toolbox .
I guess I'll fill it up to - day .
=8-) .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Rubber Muffler Donuts
Or ;
Spend the extra $10 to do it right , once , using the 107 donuts and never touch them again , save the $ for Power Service Diesel Kleen or Startron by Starbright....

They might have held on for another year, but I figured 3 years was a pretty good run. It is fall, so it is time for rehabbing all the maintenance stuff I have been putting off while the temps were 90-105F.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Windshield gasket replacement
Order up the gaskets now as they take time to arrive .
I looked up " cheap windshields " on The Internet and found them for $180 installed , they come to your house even . pretty good .
Don't wa$te time and $ on a pitted glass .
At the very least , have plenty of window cleaner and towels handy so when he pops the old one out , you can quickly clean out all the accumulated dirt around the entire channell run , they never do more than wipe it half-a$$edly...

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Sexy girl has vacuum question 1984 300D
Ah Jim ;
Jut ask for help , we'll give it .
Replace both rubber underdash hoses and consider buying a Foo-Foo can of engine starting fluid and a plastic snorkle then disconnecting both ends of both brown plastic vacuum tubes and blowing all the oil out before installing the new hose bits at both ends (four hose bits).
Right where the main vacuum pipe branches off the secondary vacuum supply to door locks , engine cutoff , HVAC and so one , install a small clear plastic VW fuel filter and toss another one in the glove box . (1972 Beetle 1600)
Every time it turns oily , replace it .
If it needs replacing twice in a week , your vacuum pump is dying and needs a rebuild kit , not so hard to do (if a messy , oily job) and you'll be well pleased by the increased vacuum .
Or , pay the garage Man about $1,200 to replace it (he'll claim it's new and just rebuild it) and suffer the new maladies he creates by working sloppily on your " old car " .
I overhauled Tom's for less than $20 using Pick-A-Part parts....

It wouldn't shut off today and when I investigated the problem, I discovered the vacuum tube had come loose off the ignition key thingameebob. I put it back on and the engine turns off fine now, but when I did the job, I found black oil inside the vacuum tube. I remember you guys saying something about how it is bad to have your tube dripping black oil and so I thought I would ask about it before I got down on my hands and knees again and crawled back under the dash.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Battery problems
Interstate has _never_ been a ' top quality ' battery .
Neither are BOSCH or VARTA ~ German trash , both .
A couple years ago , the 240D's battery died while parked (normal) after 7 years so I went a battery hunting in Indio , Ca. on a Sunday morning , the only place I found to have the correct one was Wally - Mart , it was also the cheapest , I bought and installed it and no further drama battery - wise so far .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Older Mercedes
Last night close to midnight I was testing the repairs made to my trusty if battered 1959 Metropolitan Nash Fixed Head Coupe , as I entered the freeway I passed an early 1960's Mercedes Drop Head Coupe (Convertible) plodding along in the slow lane doing under 55 MPH .
It looked at least as good as new , maybe better .
It was silent in operation , I wonder why he was driving so slowly ~ my Metro barely goes 65 and I passed him like a rabbit in a thicket as others were zooming up behind him and swerving wildly to avoid crashing into him so I didn't stick around to enjoy the view .
I'm not so sure older Mercedes are necessarily slow , my '81 240D W/ slushbox is no ball of fire but it goes along @ 60 just fine , faster if I don't mind wa$ting fuel .
