[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : return turbo oil pipe on 300SD

It wasn't too hard to get the pipe out from above. The MB manual directs you to do it that way. If yours doesn't come out easy, drop the sump, and tap it like Nate says. I doubt you'll need to.

5 years since that repair, and no leaks from that spot. The low pressure power steering hose is the current leak, though an extra hose clamp has stopped that for the moment, while I order parts.

Hi JC ;

There's actually TWO rubber bits needing changing , an O-Ring and then the boot that holds the lower pipe into the engine block ~ it must be removed by draining the oil then dropping the sump then using a wooden dowel to carefully knock the lower pipe up and out of the old , rock hard rubber , then you can carefully pry the rubber out in many tiny pieces before easily pressing the new boot in with your hand and re - assembling everything , often you can re use the gasket on the sump .

WARNING : _DO_NOT_ be a goof like some folks (ahem) and try to flat rate the job and remove the lower pipe from above ~ you'll wind up mangling the pipe before it comes out and you'll likely gouge the alloy hole the boot fits in so it'll dribble a bit forevermore....

I hope this helps , it is definately a DIY job , if messy .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: return turbo oil pipe on 300SD

There might be a few ways of doing this job, as I seem to remember someone saying they went in from the bottom. I took off the turbo and manifolds, pulled the tube up, and replaced all the seals and gaskets, as there seemed to be a few leaks.

I just looked at the manual, and it says to unbolt from the turbo and push down, pull outward, and remove.

There's also an O-ring in between the 2-part turbo oil return pipe. The lower seal will most likely crumble.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] return turbo oil pipe on 300SD

For the short haul, get a drip pan, it is cheaper and easier to deal with. But, if you must -

Hi,

I have a 1984 300SD and for a hile now, I have oil spots in my garage after I park it there for a while.

Looking into it is appears the leak comes from the return of the turbo oil, at the point where it enters the bottom oil pan. There is a small rubber seal ring there and I suspects it's worn out, dry, and not sealing properly.

Question: How do you change this seal? I suppose you must pull the pipe out from the top, but it would be nice to have confirmation of this.

Thanks for any help on my minor problem. The car only has 120,000 miles and run like a new car.....actually better than a new car as it is more reliable and easier to fix than these modern computerized vehicles should any problem crop up!

[diesel_mercedes] return turbo oil pipe on 300SD

Re: [diesel_mercedes] 1984 300SD door lock assembly

My front driver door won't shut unless I "flip" the inside handle before closing it, then it will shut every time

Re: [diesel_mercedes] 1984 300SD door lock assembly

Mine's the rear driver's side door, that doesn't shut as well. I have to
slam it a little bit, whereas the others just shut right.
Nothing obvious I've seen to cause it, though it's not so bad I've spent
too much time checking it.

Thanks Brian, I'll look at that too, sometime...

Check to see if your door seal has bulged or loosened. You can also adjust the lock. There is also a little (1") hard rubber piece that can work its way out.
