Re: [diesel_mercedes] My turn to be stupid

But I think I can now say that this all seems to be having a happy
ending. Seems that a bath in gasoline has done something to the misfire
this car has suffered since I bought it. Repeated purges, new glow
plugs, two valve adjustment and regular long commutes have brought it
back most of the way, but before I introduced 7 gallons of gasoline, it
continued to suffer from a weak cylinder.
At speed, it would smooth out, but it lacked pep and took hills reluctantly.
The last few days, I am seeing good torque and smooth idles. She is far
more capable on hills and has become a real joy on straightaways. And,
she no longer slightly fumes blue while idling.
My theory is that the engine had coked up precombustion cambers, which
the gasoline has burnt out.
I wonder if this might be so?

Well, there is that, but also, he's not the only one to have, ah, "misfuelled".  I myself, am reminded when I pumped a tankful of diesel in the old 2-stroke SAAB wagon I owned years ago.  It did not appreciate that....

No worries, mate.
It's all for the greater good.
I would say that this whole thing about fungus might be overblown in cars that are used regularly and have a fair exchange of fresh fuel.
