[diesel_mercedes] Oil pressure gauge repair

OK, I shouldn't have anymore more oil oozing out from under the dash, at
least not from the oil pressure gauge.

I followed Kent's directions on replacing the oil pressure gauge
actuator, and it was pretty easy, though breaking the clock adjust knob
added a little more time to the project. Ended up drilling out the two
plastic halves and gluing/ jamming a cutoff nail in between. That seemed
to work fine.

I'll wait a little bit to make sure it's all good before reattaching the
covers and putting the carpet back, as I ran the carpet cleaner over
them for awhile, and look pretty good. Anyone find any good new floor
mats recently. I could use a set.

Recently I also replaced the battery, and front speakers. I'm trying to
catch up on a handful of neglected MB issues/projects to get the car
back into a fun, nice looking, reliable car again.

[diesel_mercedes] Der Gimmerblinken : Highbeams aren't working

The headlight current runs through the dipping switch, it gets old and funky, that's why it feels warm : too much resistance .

Cleaning electrical contact devices is fairly simple, the main thing is to always  POLISH the contacts, never sand or otherwise abrade them .

If you're using higher than 55 watt headlamps you really should splice in a relay to carry the entire headlight current load, they'll work better (brighter) too .

I was near Rob's place to -day, South Anahiem at the Pick-A-Part on Beach Blvd., looking for 2013 Nissan Sentra steel wheels ~ I got lucky and found two .

Sadly no early model M-B's in there any more .

Still plenty of grease and oil in the ground though .

OK, after pulling the stalk and spraying it with electrical switch

seemed to get hot to the touch. After I looked online for a new one,
seeing there were 3 brands: Uro, Vemo, Era, which I think might be all
the same thing re-boxed, I called Thom at the MB Classic Center and they
had one there on the shelf. It did cost more than the other, most likely
made in China ones, though that combo switch does many tasks and I
wanted the piece of mind that it would not burn up my dash sometime in
the future. Irvine is just down the road, so easy to stop by. For some
parts, the MB Classic Center has better deals than the online auto parts
places, and always MB.

Now to deal with other fixes.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '84 300CD Slushbox

Thanx Joe ;

I was upset to see the soft black silt in the filter again, I've been chasing fungus out of this car since I bought it some years ago .

I still have the slight loping at hot idle issue and once in a while upon hot start I hear a LOUD metallic clacking sound,my buddyCarlos (elderly Diesel Mechanic) tells he it's probably an injector ~ of course the car refuses to ever make this noise when he's nearby to listen .

Once I'm sure the fungus is truly gone I'll replace the injection pump with the original one I sent out for rebuilding, they just adjusted it on their testing & adjusting machine, I hope it's O.K. .

I also have more rebuilt injectors, the ones in there now are rebuilt, I worry maybe some of this fine silty stuff is causing one injector to misfire .

@ 26MPG now, I have hope it'll rise to 28, maybe even 30 once everything is perfect .

A *very* long road here .
