[diesel_mercedes] ] Bench Bleeding The M/C

Moving it from the bench to the car , it'll drip .

Always .

Questions are GOOD Max ~ never hesitate to ask .

I drain the entire system then remove the M/C , install the new one , button it all up then begin bleeding .

The amazing thing is how far it'll go once they begin banging like the car's ready to explode .

I remember the first time it happened to me. I was out of Barstow heading up the 7% grade toward Las Vegas, and I could not believe my ears. Did not have a clue, put it in the air and saw nothing. Limped into Vegas and limped back to L.A. with intermittent clanging for the next 2 or 3 months trying to figure out what was up. Ran across a video showing the axle bearing going bad, problem solved. The video said that you can turn your axle around or switch left and right and get another 100,000 miles if you have the courage.

Ok, why do the books not mention that you have to loosen the bracket bolt that allows the mount to swivel freeley. . Loosened that and everything went as planned. Had it back together in 15 minutes. Wasted almost 2 hours, and yelled at my 22 year old son for buying a piece of junk. I still love the old chevy's the most. USA, USA!!!!

[diesel_mercedes] Alternator Service

The first time or two you do this it makes you (me anyway) crazy .

The bolts much be removed off the car , there's a tube shaped spacer that you cannot see on one bolt , it will fall out and be a serious PIA to get back into place .

This is why I always suggest replacing the brushes , it's *much* easier and usually better quality parts if you use the BOSH one .

Take a rest , this is ' Hitler's Revenge ' , in time you'll get it done .

I am ready to burn this piece of beep!! 1984 300 D Trying to install the alternator. It is like the piece of garbage is bound up in the bracket. Cannot move it forward or back. Through bolts on the bottom is completely loose. Adjuster bolt is completely loose. The alternator will not rotate at all in the bracket. Any suggestions.

[diesel_mercedes] ] Thumping noise. driveline flex disc = Gubio

Um ;This boob cannot TOUCH my car ! .

He neglected to point out that the metal sleeves in the rubber flex disc are off set and have depressions they're critical to fit into and no , you cannot just tighten them Willy-Nilly and ASS-U-ME they'll slip into place .

Also , he let off a washer when re assembling and didn't change BOTH flex discs , they wear in pairs .

When installing things with a round of fasteners , insert then hand snug up all of them first , then go 'round and round doing the final tightening .

This is still a good video as it shows it's not a terribly difficult DIY job .

JACK AND SAFETY BLOCK THE CAR ! . cement blocks , piles of logs or old wheels stacked up WILL KILL YOU ! .

I'm glad it'll be an easy fix (relatively).

I've known there's a right way and a wrong way to install these things, but every time the job's come up, I've been unable to remember exactly which way it should go.  I guess I've been lucky so far, too....

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Thumping noise/ fires

Last year's fire (Rim Fire 257,314 acres) got real close and torched
most their favorite hiking trails.
This year has been burning on the south entrance; less to burn near folks.

The drought has exacerbated the bark beetle problem, which kills trees.

Thanks

No Propane, yet I did rebuild the turbo last summer.
I still recommend that for all of us with 30+yr old turbos.
