Re: [diesel_mercedes] New Year's Eve Day Ride

Well Mark l;

I now live in Sunny Southern California so anything below 40° F is ' bitterly cold ' to me as I can't wear a closed face helmet . .

Agreed , I used to ride in the teens but I'm old and broken now so the temperature affects my bones much more than it used to .

What is "bitterly cold"?

I'll ride down into the 'teens, as long as the weather is dry and the roads aren't too slick, or sandy.  If it's rainy, then, only down to freezing (32 degrees F).

Many have been the times I've brushed snow off the seat, and arrived with ice still clinging to the bike.

No ;

the So. Cal. Norton Club .

I had some Kailua in my coffee when I got up there for anti - freeze .

Many years ago , a New Years Day ride up there and beyond was  a regular thing , after my Son got in his 20's he stopped riding in the cold so I tapered off and quit .

You're correct , most often the pavement is clear and dry even when it's bitterly cold up there .

I assume it was 4 Roses that you were running for.  I don't see anything wrong with that picture, the sun was shining and the road was dry.  I used to commute 30 miles each way to college in February.  Admittedly it was southern NY, but I frequently road in snow.

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel Purge

What mark said ! .

This is really an important annual tune - up service .

I got a nice glass jug from the .99 CENTS Store and use a clear plastic paper element filter in the return hose as I don't want any crud that comes loose (and a lot will) going back into the jug to get sucked back into the fuel system .

FWIW , I have cheated and used any old free " Fuel System Cleaner " I got for free , most of it said ' for use in Diesel Systems ' some where on the label .

My glass jug is big so I can set it up and drive to work and back , really giving it a good cleaning ~ these are 30 year old machines and need careful maintenance if you want them to be top shelf .

Of course, also make sure the valves are set to the correct specification.

The first thing I would try before messing with the injectors directly is to perform the Diesel Purge treatment.  This should be done every so often on any and all mechanical injection diesels, maybe once a year, like a tune-up.  Remember: It's not an additive, but a treatment.  This is the correct procedure:
