[diesel_mercedes] GOOD Brakes !

 

Lucky me .

I was out looking for a 7-11 Store Google maps said was there , it never was .

Anyway I wasn't paying sufficient attention and when the guy in front of me stopped abruptly , I had to squeak the tires a little bit to avoid ramming him .


MY fault entirely , I stopped 6' away and was glad I'd done the brakes .

[diesel_mercedes] Wagon Progress

 

I got home last night and crawled underneath with my flashlight to see how it looks after the cleaning , there's still lots of built up grease and crud in places I couldn't reach but it's a world better looking so I re installed the accessory engine bash plate , installed the wheels . fired it up and took it for a test drive to the car wash .

It stops on a dime again but feels ' funny ' ~ like maybe there's a vacuum leak or the booster is failing ~ if I pump the brakes several times the pedal comes up very high and rock hard but ZERO BOOST .

Allowing a few moments returns the boost , why I think there's a vacuum leak plus , the three and four way connectors don't grip the plastic pipes atall ~ I can easily pull the hard plastic pipes out and that's a bad thing .

Tom Hansen @ the Mercedes Classic Center of course sold me these service items so I'll try to replace all of them under the hood to - night , maybe that'll help .

It's nice to drive this European Spec. car ~ it's a real rocketship and yet has almost no smoke ~ only under full throttle when the turbo is fuly spooled up and the car is passing everything else on the road , no other time .

Yes ;

Not long ago I tested them and several were ' drooling ' and had low pop pressures , poor spray pattern etc.

I took my bag full of spare injectors and tested them all , made up two sets of good ones and gave the rest to the nice fellow who let me use his tester .

After seeing the crud in the I.P.'s elements , I wonder if maybe those recently replaced injectors are once again drooling as the smoking is getting worse again .

I'm up to my elbows in work and other cars so I don't get to put as much time to this car (my beloved Diesel Sports Coupe) as I'd like to .

Have you cleaned the injectors?
I run vegi, blended  fuels etc, pushing the limits to see what breaks.
Nothing on 78 240, or 81 300, non turbos have broken, but buildup
on injectors brings on smoke for me. Kent's Monark tips do reduce the cleaning intervals and run better on the heavier vegi.
