Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: throttle issue 300sd
If you have a floor jack then do the motor mounts yourself. Just my suggestion. But it takes an 8 mm allen(hex)head on a socket, and a 12 or 13 or 14 (I don't remember which). Loosen the allen screw from underneath and loosen the two bolts/nuts that hold the m/m onto the frame. Then jack up the engine with a piece of wood to cushion between the jack and the pan. Just a half inch is enough. Slide out the old and slide in the new. There is a piece of tin you may want to reinstall so remember it's orientation. Both sides can be done in 20 minutes. Wear gloves. Bogy.

So, having survived my close encounter of the bird kind, when I quit shaking I installed the 4 used plugs and the new one I'd gone down town to get, re-installed the injector pipes, pumped a bit on the manual pump, and it started up, having been dead in the yard for nearly a year.
Drove down the driveway and back up noted a tranny fluid leak, looks to be a flex line near the radiator. Perhaps tomorrow. Fixing cars in 90 degree heat is a bit of a chore, buy quite preferable to doing same in the snow..

[diesel_mercedes] Re: throttle issue 300sd
the problem was mechanic error. I replaced the front two bars parallel instead of crossing them. Now everything works great. Note to self, do not do valve adustment in garage when temperature is above 100!!!
next air filter bushings, and motor mounts. (I may pay someone to do the latter.)

Had to put toe under gas and pop up to get it to stop revving? (I hope that's a word). Took another look at everything, and determined that the accelerator pipe was in the wrong hole on the manual shut off lever. Fixed that, and still have the issue. Now I am thinking it may be the cruise control. Before I drive home tonight, I may remove the fuse for the cruise. But thought I would ask for other thoughts before I tinker with it. Tach goes up with acceleration, but will not drop unless I do the toe thingy.

Down the hill this am to pick up a couple of glow plugs for my 300SD. Big Suzuki still apart, took my NX650 that handles like a bicycle compared to the Suzi..
Coming back up the hill on the chicken strips, laid over doing about 50 on a big left sweeper, I spot an enormous bird, must be a vulture, carrying a snake in its beak. It's about four, maybe five feet off the road, crossing a couple of hundred feet in front of me, I just about have time to think "cool" when I notice it's buddy about five feet from my left mirror.. I tuck in and cringe to the low side, feel and hear feathers slap across my helmet, and its over and gone..
Never thought I might need buzzard bars on my bike helmet.

So Brian ;
What's the charging rate /
Wally-Mart or O'Rielly has the nifty indicators you plug into the cigarette lighter hole , they'll give you alternator output and state of battery charge .

Yep ;
The Chinese copies are going strong , they now have an OHV model too .
Really hit or miss on the quality though .
I insured & registered my old Honda CT90K and keep it chained up in the Police garage where I work , I like to take little " Tiddle " rides to lunch .
