[diesel_mercedes] Re: Whoops- different trannys

I haven't taken the torque converter off yet, so thanks for the heads up on that. I finished pulling the first tranny last night and seem to remember that the output shaft of the transmission had spindles- but now that I'm thinking on it more- I only took one look and it was late and I had to pack up and go. Now all of a sudden I'm thinking the torque converter stayed on the flywheel on the first transmission, and stayed with the tranny on the second transmission, so that looking quickly one would looked spindled, or geared, and the other because of the torque converter, just have the nub that fits into the flywheel. Ok then- I'm back on track. Feeling just a little dumb. You all can erase this post if you like, but if it's still up and all goes well tomorrow I'll confirm.
Thanks
Mike

Which end of the tranny are you referring to by that. The output shaft should have one of those round rubber guibo connectors. Can you be more specific.

My mom blew her trann on her SD, not sure of the year, so I dropped it and then just got done dropping my dads tranny from his parts car which is an 83 SD, and noticed the driveshafts are different. The one from my moms car has spindles, and the one from my dads has a smooth nub.
This is my first try at transmissions- are we just out of luck?
Should I swap flywheels? Should I swap torque converters?
Little help, please.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Split boot that might work.

I also noted their (Dorman) Expansion Plug catalog (freeze plugs) which has many hundreds of thousands of  rubber, copper, steel, and brass plugs for your browsing enjoyment.

I wasn't able to measure the inner lip but the shaft size is ok.  I measured it
as one inch.  My inside inner  lip is currently covered.  Any one got a
measurement for it(Nate).  Hope it is around 3 inches.  Lawrence Rhodes........

I ordered the Autohaus AZ thermostat and glow plugs with a gasket for the

[diesel_mercedes] Labor hours to replace lower ball joint ?

Any one know how many hours a shop will bill me for to replace one lower ball joint ? How about if I need the upper also ?

I know the lower is on its way, boot is dry rotted and it was dry and groaning, squirt of Liquid Wrench quited it down for a few bounces.

Thanks
Steve

Re: [diesel_mercedes] lug nut torque for alloy wheels

Last time I asked re alloy wheels the guy looked it up in the book and said 80 ftlbs of torque (I think - dble check). You can stop by any Walmart auto or Goodyear tire and they will look it up for you. I think it is in the manual too.

Went through the first volume of the manual in the files; still no joy!

Type F was developed for FORD auto transmissions and contains MORE
friction enhancers than Dexron. Borg Warner T-35 trannys in many
European cars (Jag etc.) require Type F.
