Maybe not .
I'm running the '81 240D on the low fuel light as I'd hoped to replace it's smaller fuel tank that's fungus infested with the larger one I harvested from a 1984 300CD Sunday last , the plan was : run it (the 240D) fully out of fuel then pour in the two gallons of fuel I'm carrying in the trunk , prime it and beat feet home , swap the tank out when it's near empty and therefore *much* easier / cleaner to remove .
However ~ I got home from dinner with my Son , Grand Daughter and Daughter In Law last night right at sun set so I figured I'd peer in the new (used) tank with a flashlight to see just how clean it is , there's no visible rust but I spotted a pool of old diesel fuel and fungus in the bottom , not a huge deal , it's loose out of the car so cleaning it is a simple thing .
The problem is , after peering in the sender hole I went to look down the filler neck and discovered an unleaded gasoline restrictor plate factory welded in the filler neck . I took this tank out of a super clean 1984 300CD and it clearly has DIESEL FUEL (plus fungus !
) in it so who knows what the deal is .
It's supposed to be 97* ~ 101* F plus at least muggy if not rain to day so I'm wondering if maybe I should just change the clear intake filter and go fill it up with fuel and wait a few days to run it low again as I have other works that need doing too........
Stay tuned , I'll post back what ever I decide , I think I'll go home and remove the firewall in the trunk and eyeball the 240's tank to see if it matches , if so I'll try to get it installed in the next four days , work it in around other jobs I need to get done .
