[diesel_mercedes] Ignition fouled up on 1980 TD

 

Started with key not always turning.  A little jiggling it turned and started.  Now it's hard.  My mechanic told me how to take out the tumbler. After taking out the tumbler with a lot of fiddling trying to get the key to turn I don't know how the spring in the bottom of the lock mechanism is supposed to lay or be oriented.  The springy piece of metal at the bottom under the tumbler turned sideways and I can't seem to turn the it with a screw driver like I did the first time.  Should I just replace the whole thing or ........ somebody must be interested because the ad has been flagged. In my (limited) experience, this usually indicates that someone is trying to limit competition for the purchase. Hope it goes well.
