[diesel_mercedes] Just replace the windshield seal.

'84 300d. Just finished installing the windshield seal. Wasn't that
bad of a job. The old seal cut out nicely. The new one went in easily.

The worst thing is the mental scars that my daughter has. Everyone
recommended KY personal lubricant for the cotton cord. It's water based
and doesn't get sticky. She was a little grossed out.

The 3/8" sealant caulking definitely needed to be pushed flat into the
corner. If you don't push it in far enough, the windshield won't fit nicely.

I had tried sealing the old seal with flowable silicone. That was a
waste of time, the seal was brittle and cracked. It still leaked.

I hope this eliminates the swimming pool in the back floorboard. I have
the back window seal ready for the next project.

Carl

[diesel_mercedes] Re : BEWARE !!

....The ' cheap ' Mercedes ! =8-) .

And they claim drugs are addictive .

Remember , this $1,500 20D is the same one that had a $2,000.00 water pump failure in Rhyolite , Nevada (go ahead , look it up , I'll wait)

Plus a few other regular old car repairs...

I think I've only re charged the R-12 AC once ~ as I make a point of running it for 5 minutes anytime I drive the car , it remans ice cold & trouble free .

Of late I've been mostly driving my old truck , to - day I walked out to my faithful Diesel Sports Coupe and lit it off , zoomed up the Harbor /Pasadena Freeway as seriously folish speeds, enjoying the Becker FM radio and perfectly temperature adjusted Klima II........

The other day I drove SWMBO and our Foster boys around in her '84 300TD chasing sink parts , that was nice ~ that Euro Spec. wagon runs *so* fast it amazes me .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] FLOOR MATS

I got what they call #47 Palomino Cognac Sisal, but they look more brown than palomino. I would not be afraid to go "lighter" as I think everything is darker than you think it will be.

I need some floor mats, What color did you get?
I have cream carpets, yet would be worried about messing them up if I went light.
Maybe the #51 Black & Red Dot, as the car is red.

[diesel_mercedes] Made it.

Mazatlan to home, 4,000+ Kilometers. Car did well, no real issues, a dreaded vacuum prob, but much better than the trip south. New Axles took care of the big problem, (thanks Brian). We towed a trailer all the way, around 1,000lbs, and kept the speed mostly under 60 mph.
