[diesel_mercedes] Re: Wagon Progress

I have seen two of the manual pumps that leaked cause a problem.
When they leak fuel when hand pumping, they can allow air to be sucked
in when running. Both that I saw (on dally driven cars)showed up as severe loss of power on hard acceleration. Yours, after sitting may have had enough fuel in the IP to start and run until the air got to the output, then no pressure. That is a cheap and easy fix.
On a side note, I think the hardest thing these old machines is to let then sit.
Of coarse like others here I have a few of these car and can't drive them all.

Yes , I hate doing that as I've been stick behind smoky old junkers and didn't like it one bit .

I have no idea why he was following / harassing me but i didn't want to get ' smoked ' with hot lead ~ a common problem here .

Right on, If you can grab some of the crud, try to dissolve it. Biodiesel (methyl ester) would be my first choice since it's said to do that in the rest of the system. Note, this is just to soak and clean the IP.  Here in Ohio I have seen some "green" graffiti remover that contains methyl ester as a solvent.
Other thing to try would be acetone and gun bore cleaner. My favorite is home brew "Ed's Red", (ATF, acetone, mineral spirits). Search it for % online.
Diesel Purge is probably not the solvent for this cleaning.
The diesel purge contains a small 3% I think chem... how can I say this,
That make the combustion more violent to clean the tips of carbon. One of the things that resulted in no liquids when flying.

[diesel_mercedes] Cleaning Crud In I.P.

Good morning ;

No , I've been remiss ~ I used to keep right on top of things like this but now as long as it starts and runs I leave it alone ~ I'm almost 400 miles past regular hot oil and filter change mileage because that damned Wagon was up on jack stands awaiting a brake caliper....

I'm keep to get back to it , I run Diesel Kleen or Startron most fillups , when I took the secondary (spin on) fuel filter off the replace the weepy O-Rings , I was pleased and not a little bit surprised to see only crystal clear fuel in it , not a spec of crud to be seen so maybe I'm closing in on things .

I did drive by the Brentwood filling station that used to sell B20 veggie Diesel but they only have Dino Diesel now .

It rained most of yesterday , I was in Tom's garage getting filthy installing the heat welded Polyethylene fuel tank again , they used two different plastic drink bottles for ' welding rod ' when they fixed it , after I gor everything buttoned back up it refused to start , I tested everything and all was good but still no spark so i took the entire electronic ignition apart and laboriously hand polished every connector , tightened up the eight screws holding the dual fuel bowls on the double pumper carby to stop the gas leaks and it roared into life , I drove it to the gas station , filled it up NO LEAKS in the rain then kinda cleaned up and happliy drovd home in my beloved 300CD Sports Coupe , firmly planted on the greasy wet freeway , when I got off on Crenshaw some drug dealer / hood rat (?) decided to hassle me , I was able to out run him and after a while he gave up and turned off .

lord how I love this good looking , comfy and safe old car =8-) .

You haven't done a Diesel Purge recently?!  For shame....

It would be interesting to see what, if any, effect it has on an IP in your condition.  Maybe you should try it for the sake of science.

I was kinda kidding about the veg oil.  Kinda....
