Re: [diesel_mercedes] Wiper Blade Redoux

Nate,

I usually do a quick wipe with vinyl/rubber protectant, on the wiper blades, mostly to clean the gunk off, and hope it doesn't tear too soon.

Waiting for some time to do repairs on my MB: trans shift modulator, vacuum system repair, etc. My car's been just sitting in the driveway. It went from leaking ATF into the vacuum line to real hard shifting and lack of shutting off.

Maybe sometime over the holidays I'll get some time. Tired of driving the pickup.

Rob

[diesel_mercedes] W123 Wiper Blades, 'Tis The Season

It's been raining in Los Angeles and the passenger side blade stopped doing it's job, I use RAIN-X so I rarely use the wipers but i did and it was dead, off I went to my O'Reilly's where they have several different brands and types of blades, the BOSCH 'ICON' blades I out on SWMBO's '84 300TD a while back are still working fine plus they're Winter blades so I decided to buy some for my 240D and 300CD ~ boy howdy those things are expensive ! $26 each so I'm glad I'd saved the $5 discount card they sent me a while back .

The nice lady behind the counter also gave me a $1.75 additional discount (? Senior? who knows, I was glad) so in effect I got the big bottle of RAIN-X for free .

I'm now using the RAIN-X window cleaner, it coats the glass at the same time making things easier and faster, seems to work fine .

Do you want to come up here to Oregon and help me sort mine out? It  shifts at nearly redline RPM in every gear. Also, is there a way to clean/empty the round oil separator on the intake manifold that's connected to the breather tube on the valve cover? It has lots of dirty sludge around the bottom of it.

Wow!  Never heard of such a thing.  Does the 340D have much more power than the 300D?  Is it a turbo or normally aspirated?

Is a "sluch box" an early iteration of those transmissions that allow you to choose between auto and manual shifting?

1982 340D sluch box .

AC & Biobor used, low fuel lamp on @ 423 miles, 455 miles total and 26 MPG .

The primary difference was : most of this tank of fuel was driven using the cruise control set between 60 ~ 65 MPH, highway miles, not much on town shifting that's been late sine having the transmission rebuilt .

I guess I need to get off my duff and adjust it so the up shafts come sooner .

EVEN SWMBO mentioned it shifts too late recently although I like the better performance ..
