Nate, I bought a new MB blower, as I didn't think the URO one's were going to last, and/or would fry the electronics.

So , I got it running and headed off to the Sta Fe Springs LKQ Pick-A-Part Junk Yard (used to be Ecology) where they had two W-123's , an early '79 240D in O.K. shape that I'da not junked but the last owner decided to not renew the license tags in January , prolly because it needed lots of basic deferred maintenance and the AC was dead etc. , the dashboard was pretty rough from sun damage , car was filthy but straight and solid .
Anyways , some one had heavily harvested the usual E-Bay parts but I was able to remove both rear door window lifts and made some discoveries , might as well learn whilst I'm there , right ? .
Although the rear window lifts are marked with both left and right part #'s , they're _not_ interchangeable , I didn't think they were but decided to test just to make sure
FWIW , W116 and W123 REAR window lifts are the same , just make sure you don't foolishly grab the left rear one and walk off and discover your mistake a while later , luckily for me before I'd paid and left the yard
I also found a late production '85 300D that had been seriously smashed in a Freeway string accident where it got hit from behind and pushed into the car in front of it , a sad end to a very nice car .
The trunk was so collapsed I couldn't pry the spare tire out of it's well .
This one yielded a nice driver's side door card in Palomino , a good working HVAC fan (the $100 URO brand one quit working after only a few months)
And some other bits and bobs .
I headed back home and made it 46 miles on the two gallons I'd added before it began to sputter again , I decided to chance things and went home for supplies (clean rags , rubber gloves , starting fluid etc.) before going to the gas station , I *almost* made it to the gas station when the engine coughed and died as I was heading down hill and about to turn in ~ tuns out this station doesn't carry Diesel fuelso I coasted down hill across town to the next place I knew that did , was able to re start the engine and drive up to the pump.....
.
I filled the can with two gallons and put 1/2 gallon onto the car's tank because I knew I wanted to stop and fool with it awhile before adding more fresh fuel![]()
It ran smoothly and powerfully across town (short Freeway jaunt , I've been running it throttle pinned as much as possible to blow the crud out of the I.P.) , pulled into the free air place and got to work :
I removed and cleaned the clear plastic fuel screen again (Pic.) as it was again full of the milky stuff plus a little bit of dirt , I decided to blow the tank dry by disconnecting the fuel screen and the cigar hose and blowing into the cigar hose and watching what came out of the tank feed line .
Lots of crud and contaminated fuel , when it stopped blowing I buttoned it all back up , added the two gallons of Diesel in the trunk and Motored on , making another 49 miles before it began to sputter and stall out a few blocks from SWMBO's house , I added the last two gallons this morning before heading out , the two injectors are STILL weeping in spite of me loosening and re tightening them last night .
This last two gallons was purchased in the Chevron station in Monrovia @ Myrtle and the I-210 freeway , the fuel coming out of the pump was _YELLOW_ in color , this can't be good , I suggest avoiding this station or at lest checking before filling your tank with this crap .
So , that's it for now , I plan to work on the wagon's window lifts and so on to - day , if I get time I plan to remove the injector pipes from #'s 3 & 5 injectors , clean and wire brush , re install and if they still leak I have some spares from the junkyard I'll try .
As soon as it stops weeping I'll have to re wash the engine before the soaking of Diesel fuel attacks and ruins every thing plastic and rubber in the engine compartment and underneath the car .
Good thing I like this stuff , eh ?
.
