[diesel_mercedes] BE SAFE !

 

Tuesday 5.2 my Daughter in Law was leaving her friend's shop when she noticed unsecured cargo in the bed of her 2005 (?) Chevy crew cab long bed diesel pickup truck that's lifted .

She pulled over to the curb and turned on the hazard lamps, made sure her 4 YO. Daughter was still safely buckled intio her car seat and climbed intot he bed to secure the cargo .

Some guy driving past fell asleep and rammed her truck going full speed, tossing her through the air and she landed on her head, breaking her neck and left arm/wrist .

She had emergency neurosurgery on the C6 & c& vertibrae and now has a metal plate and four screws, they're going to go back and look at the left arm/wrist and pin it soo, waiting for her to stabilize more yet .



Whew .


She's in serious pain but will live and not be crippled for life .


She's young and very healthy, not over weight, likes to be active and so on .


I asked the Surgeon of she'd be able to ride a Motocycle again, he doesn't know she's a competitive Moto racer, he said yes, in less than one year if all goes well .


I've been stating at the hospital since then .


She's home now .


Grand Daughter is fine but not happy she can't be picked up any more .

European style license tags are cheap to buy and they'll make them in any format you wish .

You're O.K. and have the right attitude .

As an old friend told me " faith can move mountains but you'd better bring  a shovel " .


Did Mike replace the radiator before ? . modern aluminum core radiators often lowly degrade and cause hot running that blows head gaskets ~ ask anyone who owns and 1980's vintage Japanese car ~ they often replace the blown engine with a good used, low mileage Japanese takeout and then give up when that dies .

The Mercedes Citric Acid cleaning works a treat as do my custom made copper radiators .

[diesel_mercedes] 722.303 Tranny

 

? only on wagons and CD's ? .

I thought the S Klasse Sedans had the beefiest tranny .

I was underneath my '84 300CD to - day, laboriously scrubbing off 33 years of accumulated oil, Diesel fuel and road mung that was collected by the gooey mess......

Whew am I ever tired and the job's no where near done yet but I'm happier .

I guess I need to look at the tranny's tag # to see what model it is .

I had to replace the tranny in my wagon and could only find a tranny with a mechanical speedo. My wagon had an electronic one. So I built this modification. see the pix. I know it's not perfect and I do have some concern for the effect of centrifugal force on the fingers. But it is .1 inch thick material and I had a dickens of a time bending it properly so I left a 1/4 inch gap between the fingers and the sensor and it still worked. The sensor is encased in heat shrinkable tubing which covers the end which is sealed with a piece of plastic bottle cap trimmed to fit.
