Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fugus In The Fuel 240D

I had a 240D that had been driven mainly in the city and was in need of a good run.
I added a litre of 10w30 oil to the fuel (will help loosen up carbon on the parts)
Took it on a good hard run, extra 300lbs weight plus me, and a highway run with a few good uphill runs.
The extra weight and uphills helped to increase the temp, so the carbon would be removed.
At the start the car would die at a traffic light and was barely able to do 60mph.
After my 6 hr run, the car was able to do 90 mph and didn't stall at lights(still ran  a bit rough though)
I was told to drive the car hard and not to baby it.
After about 6K miles the car was running great and started well.

These cars need to be ran on the highway every so often to keep the carbon out.
They can also be driven hard(within reason), they have governors to protect them.

O.K. , ;

I'm still driving SWMBO's 1982 240D with Slushbox , it's running better & better and now starts a bit easier in the wee hours when it's really cool (49° F isn't jacket weather much less 'cold')  , I see some excess fuel smoke in my mirror if I'm stuck at a long traffic light .

It clearly has more power , get up and go off a dead stop , I think I have 325 miles on it now , the low fuel light comes on and then goes back off again , I plan to fill it up @ lunch to - day , add some more Startron .

We'll see what happens .

It's still rather slow , I liken it to driving my old 1950's vintage 36HP VW Beetles ~ takes off O.K. and in due time will get up to Freeway speeds but it's no ball of fire .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Automatic

365 miles , 26.8 MPG ~ Startron used , A/C too .

Thisa is SWMBO's car and I see the fuel economy is creeping back up again now I'm driving it .

I try to keep it @ 60 MPH on the Freeway , some hills it used to slow down and chug up , it now whizzes over in top gear @ 1/2 throttle .

$3.09 / gallon , RUG  was $3.69 =8-) .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Intake Screen

Yes Max ;

It's like good quality window screens ~ good for chunks and small birds ,lost Children etc. , not much actual filtering though ~ that's why there's a spin on micronic Secondary Fuel Filter .

Hey, I saw that too. There has been study on making fuel from algae, I wonder how that's going. In the meantime its still diesel for me, I get a big load this week. Back to road work on the tractor. max

Sounds crazy but International Harvester transmission fluid. Started using it when racing VWs and all the Formula V folks used it. Is thin like water but has a terrific film strength.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Not AGIAN ! =8-(

I'm still running 7 to 8 year old diesel in my generator and tractor. Havent had any problems I've became aware of. Monday I'll fill the 300 gallon tank with fresh. I bet the bottom of this tank is full of sludge but as it never moves to stir things up I guesss it works. Its triple filtered and double water separated. Its raining here. Max

It was clean the last time I filled up , I'm pretty sure I used this same Filling station , the only discount Diesel source I have found in Pasadena .

Dammit .

Now I have to go find my big bottle of Startron and begin dosing it .
