You got a lot of car for the money back then - many said ' but I can buy a 6 cylinder for door Chevy for that ! '
The VW was smaller but a vastly superior Automibile in every way .

[diesel_mercedes] Used Parts

I was wandering around some emails and saw where I bought a rear view mirror off this guy on ebay. He seems to have a good collection of odd ball stuff that might be useful for some of you.

[diesel_mercedes] Car Talk Goodbye Tom

Tom Magliozzi, one of public radio's most popular personalities, died on Monday of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 77 years old. Tom and his brother, Ray, became famous as "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers" on the weekly NPR show Car Talk. They bantered, told jokes, laughed and sometimes even gave pretty good advice to listeners who called in with their car troubles.

I do remember Fords and Chevies going for $950 - $1000 after WW2 although I was a kid at the time. Fletcher Jones (Sr) had a Chevrolet dealership in downtown LA, as did Felix Chevrolet. Boom times after WW2 meant G.I.'s had jobs and could buy cars.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Car Prices

I know because I paid my credit union for all 3 of them. The salesman (John Moore in Huntington Park) pocketed $100 as his fee. Maybe the dealer brought them in cheaper. Used to fill the Beetle tanks for $3.25 +/-. Had a flat front right tire once and was able to limp 5 miles to get it fixed as there was no (or little) weight over that tire. I miss those old Beetles and wish I had treated them better. I used to take them out to the Mojave desert, let some air out of the rear tires and travel miles across the sand (until I broke through some rabbit holes, had to walk out and get my bro-in-law to come help me push/pull it out). Wow, 54 years ago.
