Thanks Nate. Sounds like a job I can handle. I agree. Love to help and be helped. Never too old to learn.
It's not so strange , once a leak begins the rest of the system packs it in pretty quickly .
To open the center vent , you'll need a flashlight , a long wooden dowel and another one to prop the vent open .
Peer in the vent and you'll see the oval plate in there , push gently on the upper edge until it begins to open , slide the other dowel in the vent and under the open flap to hold it in place ~ .
You may need to push it open a couple times before you find the sweet spot for the prop wood to fit well .
DO NOT force anything ! .
FWIW , we (I anyway) never tire of hearing about repairs and problems , it's how the smart folks learn , by discussing how others tacked the same problems .

How did you get to the vent to block it open? Strange that on Sunday everything worked fine. No leaks, cold air out all vents. On Monday, leak began, overheated, air still worked fine. Did by pass on the heater hose. No leak but air does not blow out center vents. How come???? Anyone. Guess you guys are getting tired of this thread. Maybe we are near the end. Thanks to all for the help. Love both of our Mercedes.
