[diesel_mercedes] Klima II Control

I have a similar issue , I put a tire pressure gauge into the center vents once I'd pried the flapper open using a 18" long pry bar , because of my driving style the damned gauge fell down inside the flapper allowing it to close 3/4 again , I live with it , I wish I had a ' meat locker ' in my Coupe but it's cool enough I suppose .

The flapper vacuum element is almost certainly what's bad but I can't seem to reach it after removing the glove box liner , I guess the whole ding dang dashboard has to come off to fix that .

The diaphragm is really cheap , no so much the labor .

R-12 is worth every penny IMO .

The fan is blowing strong, but right now the problem is the vent door to blow out the lower vents out the console above the radio.......It goes PLOP and starts blowing out the defrost vents, and appears to be vacuum related.

The air is cold, system seems to be working but I am scared to death of changing the buttons at all for fear of having the system stop. so I just change blower speeds and enjoy the meat locker approach.

That's a;; I have for now, I guess I will save some money for a new/rebuilt  Klima......sigh

DO NOT buy a used one ! .

Rebuilt HVAC control units are easily available from any M-B Partshaus .

Peach Parts , Buy MB PartsEtc. , etc.

NOT cheap .

FWIW , if you have any burnt out wiring (doubtful but it occasionally happens) the fan motor is almost certainly the culprit so remove it and test it , replace as necessary before you fry the rebuilt pushbutton control .

90 + % of the time , intermittent blowing of air (hot or cold) is caused by a worn out fan , they're now cheap @ $100 brandy new .

IIRC , your W-126's fan motor brushes can be easily replaced and Mercedes Source in Bellingham , Wa. sells a $100 (+/-) kit with instructions to do so .

Okay......I have A/C going, but it's intermittent. We changed out a relay that only cost 300 bucks, due to it being burned out from bad wiring.

But......I have a question.....I think my push button controller may be on it's last leg, and the mechanic I used said he could not find a replacement. Is this true????

I have 1984 300 SD, it's needed tender loving care and I am finally getting a chance to let her have some....any ideas where I can find this?

Thanks all

[diesel_mercedes] W-116 Trunk Lock

Right , I get that ;

Mercedes uses decent quality key locks so you have to spend time and effort to find a real Locksmith who will look at it and try instead of saying " I'm too lazy or not properly trained " .

They're out there , just takes some time to find them .

Q. : have you yet bought an original key from The Mercedes Classic Center ? . I have done so for all but one of my old Mercedes'  and this plus some graphite makes the old locks work perfectly .

Before drilling , maybe have a locksmith take a look at it ? .

Once opened it's easy to remove the lock cylinder proper .

Silly question : have you removed the rear seat , disconnected the green vacuum pipe and applied vacuum to it whilst some one tries opening the trunk ? .

-Nate

Mike Asked  :

I was thinking because I cannot open the trunk (its locked) on my 77280SE about taking the lock from my 71 220D and installing it on the 77 280SE.  Does anyone know if the lock is compatible?

Because you can't lift up the back seats and no amount of lubricating oil has worked I am at the point of drilling the lock out.

Thanks and your good thoughts are appreciated!

[diesel_mercedes] Vacuum Trunk Lock

The white pie is for the vacuum reservoir , the green one is the unlock circuit and the yellow one with the red stripe is the locking circuit .

Try all three before giving up because who knows what boob screwed things up in the last 30 years.....

[diesel_mercedes] Re: same old pile of ring dings

Welcome home ;

I see you're serious , nothing much has changed .

Maybe the Miata is a good idea *if* you can fit into one ~ my son had one and it was nice but I could only ride in it , the windhsield header bar was dead centered in my forward vision so I didn't take it when offered for free .

Too bad as it was a fun car , even before he added the turbo charger .

GREAT AC too ! .

been a lil depressed. I want another diesel, but I am aware of environmental issues. baring any chance that the pollution side of diesel is just a rightwing attempt to get more folks to drive deliberately inefficient gas powered lumps that don't quiver with deep feeling, any outlandish recent break-throughs' in retroactive pollution controls, or new bio diesel technology?
I was drooling over the Chrysler 300 recently, as well as also discovering it is based on Mercedes mechanicals. was that  80' S class hand me downs, or 90's sharing of the merc 300E series parts bin? I was told repeatedly the car was going to get the bluetech like the jeeps did, never happened. what a wasted opportunity to achieve greatness.  aside from health issues, I'm still the same; I never learn, and still don't drive. I tried to get another car, but because I haven't had one for years, I was quoted $3,000 liability alone for not recently owning/registering a car, despite not having any accidents since college. they blame my credit(high medical bills, payment issues due to being on ssd, and, I don't know; google satellite caught me farting in public? granted, they all asked what I had, I said nothing yet; but that I wanted another 300sdl. the same type I had when I last drove before storing, in 2003 or so, then compacting my rusted love, in 2005. I suspect they might have thought it was the same car? and was concerned I drove it for the last decade without insurance? that would explain the gouge, but the drone strike never happened. still scratching my head. screw this. I want a 1930's Morgan three wheeler cyclecar replica(not the new forty grand one) made by hand with tinfoil, plumbing pipe and particle board, and a used motorcycle drivetrain and electrics. then insurance will be $250 a year. then I can convert it to diesel later on.  baring a diesel, i think i'll get a 2008 Chrysler sebring hard top convertible. any hate free insight on those, and the car they are based on? i don't think i'll be getting a diesel, but whatever i get, i want to know what your thoughts are, as i trust you folks more than anyone else out there. i really want a Miata, but it's only a tad more practical than the Morgan.
same old trivial info overloaded email, you say? see? I told you nothing changed....
