Re: [diesel_mercedes] Gasser Comparo

OK, I reminded myself why I bought a Schumks starter. I called the local dealer (MB)in Spokane today and I am sure I did way back when I first needed a starter. $528 MB dealer, Shumks about $100 lifetime. Yep, they suck, but I will not fork out $528.           they suck at alternators too. Max

My '74 350SLC four speed certainly did .

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel Fuel Return Hose 3.2 MM

A couple weeks ago I had a leak in the flexible injector return hose , I went to a NAPA Partshaus and the nice man sold me some NAPA # H174 hose  , it seems fine , no leaks and hasn't swelled up and gone soft like some other aftermarket hoses I've tried did .

You might make a note of this P/N or buy 6' of it and stick in the map pocket .

Your original tool kit pliers will easily cut it to length .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Bypass the servo

Yes IF the servo still works and neither stalls out nor slowly grinds to a halt at either end of it's travel .

When you test it , it's critical that the electric motor spins freely then comes to a firm & sudden halt , not slows down until it stops .

late 1970's Dodge trucks use a heater hot water valve that has the correct mis - matched hose nipples and operates via a cable .

I connected the coolant hoses together to bypass the leaky servo.  Of course heat works.

But will the A/C work this way?  Maybe can I just cap the coolant lines?

TIA as always.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Starter Interchange

I checked at Autohaus, they list the same starter number for the 300 and 300TD ans 240. Well, my starters do work hard when I try and start in winter, but the main problem is the starter. Max

I don't know Max , want me to look up the part #'s ? .

It's fairly easy to do .

I rarely have starter failures because I work diligently at keeping my engines in sharp tune so there's very little actual cranking going on .

Hey Nate, you got fungus I got starters. I just replaced my starter again about 5 weeks ago. It just went out, again. Solenoid this time, first time for this I think. Bosch rebuilt, main starter motor, , but I'm guessing everything else is crap. Good thing its easy on a 240. Hey, are the starters from TD's the same? I have a Turbo and a non, I was thinking maybe one of those would be a good MB starter. Max
