[diesel_mercedes] Re: A Mercedes beef.

The old key that came with the car is still holding up fine, it is the new keys that fall apart. Have no beef with the price, considering, and the service was great. But I and a number of others here have problems with the newer keys losing their grips. The dealership acknowledged my email, but that was the last I heard from them.
Unless they change the design, replacement keys are going to get a bad reputation. Just one of those little things that annoy, when all here seem to really love their cars.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Minor Miscellaneous Tasks

Have a look at the transmission cooling pipe where it is clipped to a sump bolt. On my 300D the rubber bush had worn and the clip had chafed through the steel pipe. I removed the pipe and silver soldered a copper sleeve over the split. I had to remove the engine shockers bracket to wiggle the transmission cooling pipe out. I made up new clips and bushed them with strips of 2mm insertion rubber.
I checked my 300TD and the same problem was waiting to happen.

Maybe take the door panel off and replace the map case (repaired with Goop) with a pristine one found at a PAP. See if I can shave a little rubber from the recently replaced door seal which now requires some muscle to close.

I've never had a complaint on keys. Not once in 40 years. Ok, maybe the price, but not the quality.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: A Mercedes beef.

Nate, you stayed at Amy's Inn, wish I had known you were going there, there are a couple of people I who are getting quite old (Frank 95) that we would like to have gotten updates on.
Re the keys, will get out my little milling machine and make metal handles for the two keys. I did send my post to Mercedes Spokane with no reply.
Tony.
