This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

Is there a light that comes on when you're on 'reserve'? Is the bulb burnt out? Bill in Oregon

I didn't see a reserve light for the first few years I owned the car, and only started seeing it after I started using StarTron.

Dang it .
536 miles, 27.8 MPG's using Startron and no AC .
Low fuel lamp came on @ 509 miles, the gauge was reading about 1/4 ~ I removed the tank sender and took it apart (again) some fungus was inside it
so I cleaned it all out yet again then tested it to see why the gauge doesn't read 'R' , not ever ~ not even when I run it out of fuel .
I see nothing wrong, this sender is a replacement one dated 1999 (IIRC) ~ I have the other one stashed away some wheres and as soon as I can find it or another one, I'll test it to see what's what .

A while back I smacked a curb stone whilst parking and the front wheels were toed _out_, this of course caused me to wear the outer edges of both front tires to then through the steel belts, ruining two year old tires (face smack) .
I decided what the hey, I might as well scare up some correct original alloy disc typ 14" wheels so I can retain the original hub caps .
A nice guy in Bakersfield who'd hipped me to my European Spec. Wagon a while back, sold me a set for $60 each . a lot of $ for used wheels yes but I think it worth the $ and effort for a car I don't plan to sell . these ally wheels weigh about 1'4 what the old steelies did .
I bought a set of new ' Just So ' tire stems from The Mercedes Classic Center and a pair of brandy new Michelin HT Defenders (!$ ouch!) for $225 the pair mounted and balanced then drove it two doors over to an original BEAR Frame and Alignment Shop where the nice Man told me there's no rear wheel adjustments to be made on the W123's and he said the entire front end is nice and tight, looks good, charged me $50 and it now goes in a straight line again and doesn't follow cracks/pavement edges anymore so I'm happy .
Of course, while I had the rear wheels off I noticed it's time for new rear brake pads ~ there's always something to do, right ? .
I hope that next week I can change out the leaky oil cooler hoses .

Lawrence said that he's driving a 'Leaf'.
While I plan to drive my MB for another decade or more, if that's not
possible, and I couldn't find a decent MB diesel replacement, I'd go
electric too. Have fun with that Leaf Lawrence.
Someone should buy the wrenches.

Well I've enjoyed my stay here.
Got lots of good advice. Gave a little. However
the urge to tease about how much better my new car is just
won't go away. I really got good use out of my
Mercedes. Only lost one car due to engine knock.
More or less had accidents pay for all the cars. Drove
on veg oil for a decade. That saved 25 grand. But the busted
knuckles dirty fingers and wife rescues balanced it out. Not
to mention all the veg oil containers taking over the
house. I put in a transmission, numerous
alternator's,pumps and hoses. Not to mention valves.
Enough. I'VE had my time with one of the best
engineered cars made. However the Leaf brakes better,
rides as well & only costs me $258.00 for 5 years. No
dirty fingers. If anyone wants my valve adjustment wrenches
let me know. 30 bucks plus shipping takes them.
Or best offer. Thanks, Lawrence Rhodes..I could advise
on veg conversions.
