Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Need motor mounts
This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.
Trish, Each motor mount is specially made for each body style and
motor combination. (Said the other way round, there are no universal
motor mounts.) If Autozone has the one for our MB, you can buy it
there. Bobby

So can I just get motor mounts at Auto Zone, or is there a special one for my 300D?
Yes, and that would be me! I ordered the rebuild kit from Mercedessource to rebuild the turbo on my '79 300SD. After a series of fits and starts over the course of about 3 months, finally got it done but obviously didn't do it very well. After 300 miles it gave up the ghost. Loud whirring sound then kaput! Not working at all now.
Luckily I have another ready to go (original) but now I need to take it all back apart again and reinstall the original (rebuilt the one off my '80 300SD parts car.
Not driving the car at all now, read to many horror stories about runaway diesels due to oil in the intake and metal shavings in the pan.
Other than that...fun times. Car is (was) running great.

I'd save it until you find an indie that can do it , some shops have this nifty alignment tool that holds onto the wheels proper so you can use it on any hoist .
We had one @ LAX when I were a LAX Police mechanic back when my Sports Coupe was new & shiny .

Not many shops have alignment racks. There are some very fine mechanics there (as well as some hacks). So I will have to decide in the first 2,000 miles. Dont want to waste cash on car repairs, savin it for margaritas.

It's nothing I'd ever admit publicly , nor suggest doing .
If it's bad you'll feel it straightaway , if it's fair , you'll notice it in high speed corners (like that canyon , ahem) if it's really close you'll begin to see some wear or cupping along the out edge of the treads , watch it like a hawk .
I assume you've checked the toe - in using a crayon & tape or yardstick ? set to zero or under 1/8" toe .
