Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Getting stuck in the mud
OMG you have a LOT of work plotted out for me! I need to get the rocks trucks that travel in front of the house to drop off a load a month and we'd be set! I would be happy to feed them. We've often talked about asking the TX Dot mowers to take lunch here and let us borrow their tractor for an hour or so. I could have most of the front cut down in no time!
We've thought of concreting. That would be nice. Anything solid would be nice.
I thought today that I could just hook Buddy (he's the pit we rescued June 1) up and he can pull us out! Kevin gave him a rope (think something to hold a tanker ship) which he tied to his F250 hitch. Buddy can shake the truck. Kevin stood on the rope and Buddy moved him! Today I stood on the rope, using Sadie (Lab we rescued Thanksgiving '06) as a balance, Buddy drug me about 5' across the yard! So if one dog can move 200lbs (Kevin NOT me!) I'd need 2x as many dogs as I have right now. Oh well, it was an idea! I think Buddy could move more than 200lbs though.
Got good friends who work at the Irwindale / Azusa rock crushing & gravel pits. I can probably get you some free truck loads, but you would have to pay freightage, or bring a truck down and haul it back. Alternatively, you can do it a bag or two at a time. Good exercise, spread the cost out, and so on. Hey, here is a better thought - I once put in a 3" x 15 foot cement pad for a tetherball court by hand. You could section off six foot runs and create a concrete driveway. Might take a few years, but think of the pride you would have in driving up yo your doorstep.

Gravel is marvelous stuff, for my 1.3 mile drive way I figure it would only run about $25K or so. Only need it in spring thaw here. Max

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Walking In A Winter Wonderland
That's funny. Thanks for the laugh!
This has nothing to do with the subject other than the title. The Milwaukee Symphony donated their time to do this for the Wisconsin Travel bureau and they got a famous director to do it. My brother in law is the principal cello and he's a lefty so you see his back as he tosses one on somebody but the whole thing is funny. Lawrence Rhodes...

any old trailer or railroad car and cutting the basic frame out and laying it across the ditch , this way the water goes elsewhere , nut in your ruts .

Nate
' rich ' is a matter of perspective
~ Country rich folks live in trailers less than 5 years old and don't have rusted out pickup trucks , heck ~ they might even have matching brand tires ! . =8-) .
No rotted out pickups here. Nope, his tires don't match, only the two used ones I just put on the back! Our trailer is so old we can't insure it..yet. My agent told me once we finish renovating it they'll take pics and decide as it will no longer be a 1980 something, it'll be new. We gutted it down to the steel girders, replacing all of the rotted wood and insulation. We changed it from gas to electric, creating walls where there were doors. We cut holes in walls to install new windows where there were none prior! We put in sheet rock and solid tongue and groove floors. We had fun and learned a lot in the process. Like...No matter how fun it is to take a sledge hammer and tear out a wall, don't do it until you mark the wires so once the wall is down you know which of the bazillion wires goes to what! That was fun, hmm was this a switch or a wall plug? Did this go to the dishwasher or fan? Where does this go????
How cold could it have gotten ?
you have Keith ,
I'm sure you meant Kevin. :)
dogs & blankets to cuddle / snuggle in ,
as a last resort , head to the nearest dairy farm , cows shed lots of heat all winter long , just take a blanket and you'll be fine in a corner of the cow barn . (wish I didn't know all this crap but that's life)
Do keep your eyes peeled for the old paper bound shop manuals , I find 'em in the darndest places : Thrift Stores , Rummage Sales , abandoned cars , Chevy Dealers , on and on...

Trish ;
Judging by the pix of Harmony Farm , you oughta know by now that ' rich ' is a matter of perspective ~ Country rich folks live in trailers less than 5 years old and don't have rusted out pickup trucks , heck ~ they might even have matching brand tires ! . =8-) .
