[diesel_mercedes] Re : 77 240D glowplug relay pinouts

Since I am using the fast plugs connected in parallel and the old style relay I
had to count to ten and start.  This might have contributed to the demise of the
relay as it never timed out.  It did however not go as long when warm.  So it
worked sort of.  The problem is it came on when running and didn't come on when
I wanted to start the car.  I'd have to bash it a few times which also probably
killed it.  So even normally it wasn't that helpful.  I still had to count to
ten.  So I'm s&*t canning the whole deal.  I'll have a momentary switch on the
dash & count to ten.  I might even now use the pinouts to make the glowplug dash
light come on for old times sake.  What I really want is a plug in solution to
this whole deal which is the fast glow relay made after 79 that plugs into my
harness.  You can't even get this for 400 dollars so the 40 buck solution and
bye bye to the original which lasted 34years.  Wow they make those MB parts to
last.  I could have afforded 100 dollars to buy the original but I'm thinking
why?  This solution will be bullet proof & I can still use the original if one
comes my way.  I'll just have a back up.  Also when we ran the diesel on the
sailboat we had a manual glow plug and we counted to 30. Then started.  They had
a chart that you used temp and time to start the motor.  How is this different.
I agree if my wife ran the car having it stock is better.  Lawrence Rhodes....
