Anyway, I am finally scraping a Subaru Legacy of that vintage and wanted to share the existence of two parts that would interest us MB diesel owners.

First is an electric vacuum pump mounted on the inside right shock tower. Pull three 10mm nuts and it's yours. It's a boxy looking thing. If you can't find it, then follow the vacuum line from the throttle actuator in the engine compartment, in front of the driver, around until changes to a flexible hose. The other end of that hose is the vacuum pump.

Second is a cute little part that is used to hold the large AC hose in place in the top center rear part of the engine compartment. It looks remarkably like the air cleaner mounts that are always breaking and we can't seem to find enough of. They use the same nut sizes our air cleaner mounts use.

I have posted an album in the photos section called "usefull Subaru parts" My junkyard doesn't charge me for these. And they have a line of early 90's legacys 20 cars long.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Glow Plug Service

Well, he is pretty good with a wrench, but yours truly had his head in there two. We did the valve adjustment at the same time, gotta admit that 4 hands make the valves go easier. No I did not just lay underneath to turn the crankshaft with a ratchet and a beer.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] usefull Subaru parts for MB diesel owners

One further word about the vacuum pump.

You will notice that the red wire is common to both the motor and the internals of the box. Inside the box are two electric valves. These valves must be energized to seal the vacuum chamber. This is a safety feature to prevent runaway. I don't know whether it matters what polarity you use. Red could be positive or negative. But the other three wires must be the opposite. The pump motor is either a DC permanent magnet type with a piston or diaphragm, and will work in either direction. The electric valves may prefer one polarity or the other. It is common for electronic controls to turn things on by controlling the ground connection. So the enlightened betting man will connect the red to positive and ground the others.

Proceed at your own risk.

One of those "Y" type vacuum connectors on the output of the pump would allow for pump connection, vacuum gauge connection and an output line to the vacuum system under service.

Good luck and Good day.
