[diesel_mercedes] Battery hold down wanted

Hey,
1977 Mercedes 240. Need a tie down plate and bolt. Or is it two?
Thanks, Mark Bardenwerper in Wisconsin

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: New to group

We had a mantra when fixing Citroens, that it was always best to get it to work right in its original, then make modification. This starting issue seems more to do with fuel delivery than glow plugs right now. I checked the glow plugs yesterday with ohmeter and they all have continuity. This morning when I went to start, I reached under the dash and gave the relay a flick of the finger and the light came on. Even so, my hard starts come either hot or cold. I worry that it will run the battery down before it fires. In fact it let me down one day last week.
I have new filters coming on Monday. It won't take long to put them in and we will see how it goes after that.
Made progress this week. Front end is fixed. Goes down the road prefect now. Today I changed the muddy oil and filter and I put on my hitch.

You can also change over to pencil type glo plugs. Use a Ford type rely and a switch somewheres you can reach. I had that once on a 77 worked good. Max

Hi Bill,
I have sent out several messages to the list, first through my regular email utility (Thunderbird), then through the Charter webmail, and finally on the group page. So far, that is the only one that has gotten through. I have retyped my info several times! Very frustrating.
So here goes again, on the group page. I have a 1977 W123 240D with series glow plugs and the metal relay under the dash. I just bought the car a few months ago and need to get the bugs out of it.
I'm beginning to realize that the car had fairly good cosmetic workover on it shortly before I bought it, and he did a few major things, but he seems to have ignored the basic condition of the engine. Well, that's fine. We can fix that, right?
I think I need to replace every filter. Three tries and then a stumbling start, no smoke. Since fiddling with the relay, that seems better, though the blade fuse looks corroded and I think it would be a smart thing to put a fresh one in.
