Re: [diesel_mercedes] Control arm bushings

You will regret using aftermarket bushings, especially in a heavy car like a W140.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Control arm bushings

I have this job to do on my 140 500S and need some information and good advice.

Where to buy the parts bushings ect. OEM or will aftermarket do?
Will any coil spring tool work?
I guess that I should have asked this first is this a DIY job or
should I go to a mec. to do the work.
Is there a write up somewhere on how to do the control arm bushings?
Thanks for any help you can provide me. Gene

[diesel_mercedes] OT

So last evening, not feeling so well, I took the subway out to Max's place for the second night in a row. In the morning the maid woke me so she could clean the room. There was a whole class of grade 6 kids exploring the countryside outside the window. Max and I took the Mercedes to a big funky shop to get the brakes done. I then started the car using the key to the pickup, & Max stood outside the car guiding me, the brakes did not work so well, so I crashed into a car and into a big lump of machinery, the whole back of the car fell off, I went to complain about the brakes, then Max and I scoured the place but could not find the Mercedes anywhere. Then I woke up.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: started the 4-spd

I have a water separator, have to have one, and amazingly I only get small amounts of water, like a couple tablespoons a year.. Also I have 3 filters, two are clear, this has been set up like this since 1980 and I have never seen in my life black crud like I keep hearing about from Nate. The only reason I can think for this is it gets so very damn cold here. One more thing it's off road. I wonder if that could make a difference. Anyone else live in frozen tundra in winter and have "the crud" in their fuel? Max

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Old Fuel

Ha, Ha, a quart for 500 gallons.. Yea the thing starts and runs fine when warm, wont start with out my propane torch when cold(winter). I'm not gonna dump 300 gallons of fuel. But I am thinking of installing a small tank with fresh fuel for starting and then switching for running. The old fuel is not gonna hurt anything. I will add cetane booster and yes, in a car it probably would have prob;ems such as not enough power. But with the generator, mostly, it will just be charging batteries. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Re: started the 4-spd

Assuming its a diesel generator, I would drian some from the bottom and check for water. If water is found drain it until it looks good, let it sit a couple days and repeat, maybe a third time if you still get water on the first repeat.

Then a biocide just to be sure you kill any growth that may be in there and some water in the diesel cure (Sea-foam?).

I used BioKleen in some very wet veggie oil that was producing some bad smelling gasses, could see lots of gas bubbles in the oil. 4 days latter, no more bubbles, although it still smelled bad.

For those that are not part of the other group the link points to, you can go here to see a pic.

Dont know if this is the best price, it was the best of the three sites I found it on via googling the part number.
