[diesel_mercedes] One Step Forward , I screwed Up AGAIN

Sigh .

I filled up the final drive on my Coupe to - day , it was close to dry , I realized I'd kept saying ' I need to check / change the pumpkin oil , I guess I'll get to it the next oil change'..........D'oh ! .

How many years and hard miles have I put on this poor thing ? . I last checked/filled the pumpkin when I replaced the drive axles that were beyond shot when I bought the car .

Anyway , it's full of oil now but still sings / howls loudly at certain speeds / loads so I'll go looking for another one .

Interestingly , the housing has a # 115 part number so I imagine finding one will be simple , I just want to check what ratio it is now so I get the correct used one .

I added a small rare earth magnet inside it to help collect the SWARF I imagine is in the oil now .

As long as I had the car up on safety stands I schrooched underneath it and discovered the entire chassis is covered in fairly dry 1/8" thick crud , a mixture of Diesel fuel and road schmutz , I decided what the heck and used  five cans of de greaser , two brushes and my self from head to toe trying to clean it all , it's cleaner but neither my driveway nor the undercarriage is properly clean yet.....

I had to strip  down and bag my filthy / oily and now black clothes out side and walk in for a serious shower before going to a late lunch with Tom .

The clothes are just beginning their second double rinse washing now.....

Yuck .

I also drove the car to the filling station and filled it up with 20.651 gallons of diesel fuel and a half gallon of Startron because I'm getting really tired of all this screwing 'round with the fungus B.S. ~ I filled it right up to the tippy top of the filler neck and waited for it to ' burp ' and lower the full level several times before stopping .

I got 27.7 MPG's out of this last tank full , no A/c used (broken) and more than a few full throttle take offs and 100 + MPH short jaunts .

It's running tip top thanx (I think) to the recent valve adjust (yes,I've been a busy boy) , the throttle response is terrific now but it still smokes too much at take off , not much when blowing and going but I don't want _any_ smoke dammit .

There was more to add but I'm tired and sore , I'll flesh this out better to - morrow maybe if I can remember .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] UTE & Wood

Hi Henry ;

Glad you're still with us .

I hope you well know an MG TD engine is worthless trash and was when it was new....

I hope your little girl is doing o.K. . she must be in mid Teens by now I think ? .

Carpentry / Woodworking is neat and fascinating , I never got the hang of it but liked the end products .

Hi Nate.
well, not sure what I'll build with the lumber, I made a couple of slab
tables a while back. For now, just cut it, stack and sticker it, and let
it air dry under cover.

The guy has a fresh "TD" engine he is trying to sell, interestingly.

Odin (Ygmir, Henry)....haha I changed email accounts!!
