[diesel_mercedes] 5 extra gallons.

I got a lot more fuel in the tank of my 240's with the car tilting. Is it five gallons or just a little more? Did a trip to Seattle and back to San Francisco on a tilted tank(22 gallons?) and ten 5 gallon containers of vegetable oil.  Lawrence Rhodes

[diesel_mercedes] Bypass the servo

I connected the coolant hoses together to bypass the leaky servo.  Of course heat works.

But will the A/C work this way?  Maybe can I just cap the coolant lines?

TIA as always.

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '84 Euro Spec, 300TD

7 seater , fully optioned , did I even mention how this car goes like a scalded  cat ? .

NO AC used (it died)

266 miles (I know too soon but SWMBO cried for me to fill it  up before I leave town) 20.5 MPG .

I think she drove the entire tank this time .

Intake fuel screen is clear as glass but I do see some tiny chunks of dead black crud in the very bottom of it so soon , very soon , I will change the intake filter again .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Ecomony Check , Range Etc.

1981 240D , mostly run with the AC on , mixed city & highway driving , I *think* I added Startron at the last fillup .

I have been driving with the low fuel indicator lamp on since Saturday 6/6 , it began to flicker friday and I wanted to run it completely dry but it was raining @ 05:00 (I know , I overslept) when I went out to commute this morning so I chickened out and stopped for fuel before getting on the freeway .

454 miles (I am well pleased at this) 28.7 MPG .

Not bad for a $1,500 beater with 344,XXX miles and a bad engine and tranny .

They can't order those at the dealer, foreign part store, etc.

Is there anyway to repair cracks or what would I do know?

TIA.

Yes ;

The O-Rings are special , the best ones are green in color .

You'd be wise to at the very least replace the receiver-dryer before you evacuate the system .

Flushing the condensor and evaporator is good too as it cleans out the 35 years worth of old oil and much that inhibits heat transfer .

[diesel_mercedes] A/C Parts

Sure they _can_ order the special O-Rings , they might not want to or know how .

Look in the " HELP " aisle , or go OnLine , almost every large town has an AC parts supplier .

What's cracked ? . I'd not bother trying to repair any cracked anything in the AC System unless I absolutely couldn't find  a new / good used one .

[diesel_mercedes] Starter Interchange

I don't know Max , want me to look up the part #'s ? .

It's fairly easy to do .

I rarely have starter failures because I work diligently at keeping my engines in sharp tune so there's very little actual cranking going on .

Hey Nate, you got fungus I got starters. I just replaced my starter again about 5 weeks ago. It just went out, again. Solenoid this time, first time for this I think. Bosch rebuilt, main starter motor, , but I'm guessing everything else is crap. Good thing its easy on a 240. Hey, are the starters from TD's the same? I have a Turbo and a non, I was thinking maybe one of those would be a good MB starter. Max
